▶ Malone's Alyson Johnson is a perfect 25 for 25 in winning the girls' 10-11 division at the Elks National Free Throw Contest in Springfield, Mass.

▶ Mike Perrotte wins the season-opening 35-lap, 358 modified feature at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

▶ Saranac Lake's Laura Snizek (58.93, 400 meters) and Peru's Chris Henderson (22.03, 200m) set Section VII track and field records at the Hudson Falls Invitational.

▶ T.J. Mussaw strikes out 11, Matt Brockway gets 2 hits and Jason Rafferty knocks in 2 runs to lead Beekmantown past Saranac Lake 6-1.

▶ Erin Tulip's 2-run homer in the bottom of the 7th lifts Malone to a 5-4 win over Salmon River in softball.

▶ Dave Potter pitches a 2-hitter with 18 strikeouts in Crown Point's 4-0 win over Lake Placid.

E Karin Burdo belts 3 home runs in Elizabethtown-Lewis's 19-16 win over Crown Point.

▶ Ticonderoga's Jeremy Hall (161-8, discus) and Northeastern Clinton's Andrew Brown (6-8, high jump) set conference records in CVAC track openers.

▶ Gary Duquette pitches a 3-hitter to lead Clinton CC to its first victory, 5-3 over Schenectady CC.

▶ David Yelle strikes out the first 8 batters and finishes with 16 while Ed LaPier socks a 2-run homer for Moriah in a 4-3 win over Tupper Lake.

▶ Jason LeClaire tosses a 2-hitter with 13 strikeouts in Saranac's 12-0 triumph over Seton Catholic.

▶ Liz DeFranco of Ticonderoga strikes out 16 and Starr Smith delivers an RBI triple to give Ticonderoga a 5-4 win over AuSable Valley.

▶ Mary Rickson raps 2 homers in the opener and adds 2 hits in the nightcap to lead Champlain College to a sweep of Clinton CC in softball.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

E MAI's Mark Boule, Tom Neale of Plattsburgh High, and Saranac Lake's Scott Moody all pitch no-hitters the first week of CVAC baseball.

▶ Seann Cassidy, Scott Schalm and Brian Clark combine on a one-hitter in Lake Placid's 7-2 win over Keene.

▶ Steve Szydlik wins the 5K Heart Run with a time of 16:18. Kathy Champagne is the first female, and fourth finisher, over all, in 16:48.

▶ Kristina Gruendling pitches her second straight one-hitter and helps her cause with 6 RBI in Peru's win over Saranac Lake. Michelle Rochleau drives in 5 runs with 4 hits.

▶ John Butler's 3-run homer and Mike Roark's 2 doubles lead PHS past Moriah.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

E Paul Arnold's single in the top of the 7th spoils Darrin McDonough's no-hit bid as Keene tops Willsboro 6-0.

▶ Ken St. Pierre goes 4-for-5 with 4 RBI in Crown Point's 16-7 win over Dannemora.

▶ Mair Olmsted claims 4 firsts while Linda Parent and Melody Noonan are double winners for Beekmantown in the Eagles' first win ever over PHS in girls' track.

▶ Frank Trudeau comes through with a game-winning single on an 0-2 count in the bottom of the 7th inning, lifting Saranac to a 13-12 upset of Peru. David Ducatte drives in 6 runs with a homer and triple.

▶ Betsy Trombley hits for the cycle and pitches a 2-hitter with 13 strikeouts in Northeastern Clinton's victory over Beekmantown.

▶ Ed Meslin tosses his second complete game in 5 days as Saranac Lake edges Tupper Lake 2-1.

▶ Peru's Phil Plotas pitches a no-hitter with 7 strikeouts and Mike Henrich plates 3 runs in a 6-0 win over Moriah.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

▶ Steve Oakley fans 15 and comes through with the game-winning hit in Beekmantown's 4-3 victory over PHS.

▶ Wally Vanderhoff and Rick LeClair combine on a one-hitter to lead Peru past Lake Placid.

▶ Fred Gratto's 2-run triple in the top of the ninth sends Saranac on to an 8-6 win over Ticonderoga.

▶ Jeff Chase rips a 2-run triple and Steve Chilton chips in with a 2-run double to lead Northern Adirondack to an 11-1 win over NCCS.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

▶ Mike Quinn, Alvin Gates and Charles Novak hit home runs for Westport in a 14-9 win over Vergennes, Vt.

▶ 2 former Plattsburgh Falcons teammates oppose each other on the mound in a Texas League (Class AA) contest with Basil Curry of Austin getting the win while Russ Henrichs of San Antonio takes the loss.

▶ Plattsburgh State sophomore Randy Ellsworth pitches a 2-hitter in a 10-3 win over Utica College. Vern Wagar and Don Gertsch each drive in 2 runs while Neil Sesselman contributes 2 hits.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

▶ Roy Guyette belts a 3-run triple and Dick Hawks goes 3-for-3 to lead Champlain to an 11-7 win over Altona in a CCIL opener.

▶ Tom Giambruno, competing for Union College, takes first in the discus with a throw of 127 feet, 7 inches in a dual meet in Rochester.

▶ Hi-Life's All-Miller team (Larry, Dud, Don, Edward and George) wins the City Championship at Nash Lanes.

▶ Norwich University takes advantage of 7 errors to beat Plattsburgh State 10-7. Joe Fedele raps a 2-run double and Art Ryan, a 2-run single, for the Cardinals.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

▶ Ivan Scheier edges Al Sharron 4-3 to win the Ping Pong Tournament at the YMCA.

▶ Everest Trudeau wins the 880-yard run and Thomas Hagar takes third in the shot put to help the agricultural students win the Canton ATC track & field meet.
