10 YEARS AGO (2002)

Mooers native Jesse Boulerice scores his first National Hockey League goal to help the Carolina Hurricanes gain a 1-1 tie with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Defending state Class B champion Peru rallies from a 16-point halftime deficit only to fall 10 yards short as Lansingburgh hangs on for a 22-18 victory in the quarterfinals. Matt St. Clair nearly makes a game-winning catch of a Matt Bezio pass to the end zone on 4th down. The loss ends a 23-game Peru winning streak.

Plattsburgh State’s Jay Wells finishes second while St. Lawrence University freshman Adam VanNortwick places ninth in the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Regional to qualify for the national championships in cross country.

Jasper-Troupsburg’s strong midfield play denies Chazy, 1-0, in the Class D boys’ soccer semifinals.

The flu-stricken Chazy girls, returning to the state semifinals for the first time in 18 years, fall to Margaretville 2-0.

Zack Luke passes for 3 touchdowns in Cambridge’s 28-7 win over Tupper Lake in Class C quarterfinal football play. Rob Lamere returns a kickoff 88 yards to score in the first half as the Lumberjacks close to within 14-7 at intermission.

Salem defeats Seton Catholic 25-0 in the Class D quarterfinal. Sam Adams runs for 74 yards to earn offensive MVP honors for the Knights while Kevin Converse is the defensive MVP.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

Bobby Knaggs fires in 42 points to lead Clinton CC to a 96-83 come-from-behind win over North Country CC. Brad Pero adds 29 and Roy Ebersole, 15, for the Cougars. Erich LaBelle leads the Saints with 30.

Dan Tatro runs 63 yards to score on the first play from scrimmage to set the tone for Moriah’s 29-6 win over Rennselaer in the state Class D quarterfinals. Offensive MVP Chris Huchro runs for 125 yards and one touchdown while Bill Allen and John King also score for the Vikings. Mike Tromblee is the defensive MVP.
