10 YEARS AGO (2002)

▶ Plattsburgh High's Joel Butchino, Mark Rabideau of Seton Catholic and Ticonderoga's Adam Porter are named to the All-State team in basketball.

▶ Sophomore Alex Cole celebrates his 16th birthday with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate and 4 innings of one-hit relief in leading Beekmantown to a 9-3 victory over Seton Catholic.

▶ Rob Menard claims four firsts and freshman Luc Dunn, three, to lead Northeastern Clinton to a 70-62 win over Saranac Lake in track & field. Nate Buchanan is a triple winner for the Red Storm.

▶ Sarah Paul earns four firsts in leading Saranac to a 69-59 triumph over Peru in track & field.

▶ Brad Miller tosses a 2-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Jared Jarvis goes 4-for-5 with 3 stolen bases in Northeastern Clinton's 8-1 win over Ticonderoga.

▶ David Potter pitches a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Bob Lacey gets 3 hits in Crown Point's 9-2 win over Westport.

▶ Sophomore Megan Groves leads Malone to a sweep of the Northern Athletic Conference track & field relay carnival.

▶ Anthony English drives in 3 runs and Jason Chagnon plates a pair in Saranac's 8-4 win over Peru.

20 YEARS AGO (1992)

E Kyle Roberts and Joey Nixon belt grand slams and Ben Sprague adds a solo shot to power AuSable Valley over Saranac Lake 14-6. Scott Nicholas hits a grand slam for the Red Storm.

▶ Katie Tesar's RBI single sends Moriah on to a 3-2 win over NAC in softball. Krissy Kolodzky goes 3-for-3 for the Vikings.

▶ Brandy McDonald pitches a 3-hit shutout with 16 strikeouts and Chris Premore knocks in 4 runs to lead PHS past Beekmantown 9-0.

▶ Sophomore distance ace Sara Facteau turns to sprinting as she wins the 200 and 400 to go with a first in the 1,600 relay and a second in the 100 as Peru doubles up NCCS.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

E Sam Crowningshield drives in 6 runs with 3 doubles to lead Elizabethtown-Lewis to a 12-3 win over Keene.

▶ Kathy McGee's 2-run homer lifts PHS to a 13-12 upset of Beekmantown. Lori Dandrow goes 5-for-5 for the Hornets.

▶ Claire Szydlik sweeps the hurdles and adds 2 relay firsts to lead St. John's to a 85-47 win over Saranac Lake. Jenny Giambruno wins the 400 and 800 and also grabs 2 relay firsts for the Irish.

▶ Seann Cassidy pitches a two-hitter with 18 strikeouts in Lake Placid's 14-1 win over Crown Point. Dan Woods breaks up the no-hit bid with a double in the seventh.

▶ Tony Montemorra sets a track record for the 100-meter dash (11.0) and equals the mark for the 200 (22.9) as Peru prevails over host Malone 73-67, ending the Huskies' dual-meet winning streak at 35. Dave Hurteau wins the 800 and 1,600 for Malone.

▶ Kyle Barber sweeps the hurdles to lead Ticonderoga to victory in the Granville Invitational.

▶ Michelle Fournier pitches a 4-hitter and Maggie Fournier belts a home run in AuSable Valley's 17-2 win over Saranac Lake.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

E Dave Daniels captures the 12th running of the Champlain Valley Marathon by more than 11 minutes while Gayle Giambruno is the top female finisher.

▶ Scott Tetreault scatters 6 hits and Tom Pelkey raps a 2-run homer to lead Plattsburgh High to a 5-0 win over Moriah.

▶ Paul LaRock slugs 2 homers and Eddie Castine adds one in Beekmantown's 10-6 win over Ticonderoga. Gary Manning has 2 hits for the Sentinels.

▶ Cathy Drollette rips a 3-run homer and 2 doubles while Cindy Sommerville goes 4-for-5 in Dannemora's win over Schroon Lake.

▶ Suzanne Souza, Helen Dragoon and Sheila Trombly all get 4 hits to lead Chazy past Keene.

▶ Shelly Strack, Pitter Berger and Lisa Staats belt home runs in Lake Placid's victory over Westport.

▶ Colleen McPhail collects 4 hits in Elizabethtown-Lewis's 15-11 victory over Dannemora.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

E Plattsburgh High's Kirk Brague wins the 880-yard run in 2:08.7 at the Early Bird track meet while Moriah's Dean Garrison edges Larry Crouthers of Peru in the 100 with a time of 10.4.

▶ Frank Gates, returning from a 3-year layoff from international competition, wins the Class A Open Division at the Provincial Skeet Shoot in Montreal.

▶ Peru's John Zerrahn takes a no-hitter into the ninth, but settles for a no decision when Burlington pushes across a run in the 10th for a 1-0 victory. Mike White is tagged with the setback.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

▶ Jim Kline's 2-run triple off Barney Deshaies spurs Plattsburgh State on to a 7-2 victory over Potsdam State. Sesselman, Wagner and LaMarche all get 2 hits for the Cardinals.

▶ Paul Giroux raps out 3 hits while Terry Ladd and John Neyenhouse chip in with 2 each as Peru rallies with 3 runs in the seventh to beat MAI 6-5. Roy leads the Mount with 2 hits.

▶ Fayard pounds out 3 hits and Pelkey, Deyo and Lambert each add a pair in Altona's 10-6 win over Mooers. Deyo pitches a 2-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

▶ Ron Sweeney's 6th inning single scores Frank Dukette with the winning run as Dannemora nips Chateaugay 3-2. Losing pitcher Charlie Miller allows only 2 hits while striking out 12 and walking five.

▶ Ken McKinney goes 3-for-4 and Jim Ryan 2-for-2 to lead St. John's to a 6-3 win over Rouses Point.

▶ Pageau pitches a 6-hit shutout and Art LaDuke chips in with 2 hits in Lyon Mountain's 6-0 triumph over OLVA.

▶ Austin's wins the team event in the annual Women's Bowling Tournament. The team includes Lois Quinn, Florence Mauger, Loretta Lindley, Agatha Bushey and Anita Rubado.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

E The Youngsters of Sailly Avenue defeat the Old Men 12-0 in baseball on the back lot of Roach's Field. Paul Whalen, James McGinnis and William Shutts handle the pitching for the Youngsters while Samuel Godin, Fred Chesbrough and George Bouvia toil for the Old Men.
