Zack Welch gets 2 goals and one assist to go over 100 points for his career as Northern Adirondack defeats Saranac 4-1 to take over the CVAC Div. II lead. Later in the week, Josh Strack scores at 4:44 of the first overtime as NAC knocks off Peru 2-1, ending the Indians’ 11-game winning streak in soccer.

Krysta Cutting and Mallory Morris score goals as Elizabethtown-Lewis rallies from a 2-0 deficit to tie unbeaten Willsboro 2-2. Phoebe and Edwina Clarke score for the Warriors.

Sheree Trudeau, Tori Green, Sasha Barber and Nadine Channaoui lead unbeaten PHS past Beekmantown and All-Around winner Kaylen Fessette in gymnastics.

Travis Dumas returns a blocked punt for a touchdown and Robert Woodley runs back an interception 54 yards for another score as Seton Catholic turns back Beekmantown 14-7 to go to 5-0, its best start in 12 seasons.

Sara Schwartz’s goal 4:45 into the first overtime lifts Saranac Lake to a 2-1 upset of previously unbeaten Northeastern Clinton in girls’ soccer.

 20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Micki Flynn wins all 4 events as Plattsburgh edges Peru to keep alive its 10-year unbeaten streak in gymnastics.

Jacsue Brooks, a 2-year-old pacer owned by Jack Connell of Keeseville and named for Brooks Latremore, wins the New York County Fair Sire Stakes at Monticello Racway. It’s his 11th victory of the year.

Nichole Purdy scores from Amy Carey to give Keene a 1-0 triumph over Wells in a battle of soccer unbeatens. Center half Sherry Warner and keeper Britt Isham also star for Keene.

The Peru girls, led by Sara Facteau, and the Seton Catholic boys, paced by Pat Larkin and Jim VanArman, win their divisions in the Grout cross-country Invitational.

Sarah Angelos scores 3 goals and Heidi Sanger, one, as Beekmantown beats Tupper Lake 4-0 in a showdown of division leaders in CVAC girls’ soccer.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Kevin Daugherty and JoAnne Dion Gratto are named basketball coaches at Plattsburgh High School.

John Feitshans converts a penalty kick in overtime to give Keene a 2-1 upset of Westport in boys’ soccer.

Chris Pageau scores from Greg Boulerice as NAC nips PHS 1-0 to improve to 7-0 in CVAC boys’ soccer.

Pat Muzzy’s diving catch of a Mark Raymond pass lifts Saranac Lake to a 20-14 victory over AuSable Valley. Chris Ford throws 2 TD passes to Ned Strong in a losing cause.

Bobby Adams runs for 165 yards and Dick LeClerc scores twice in Saranac’s 22-8 win over MAI.

Scott Storrs scores in overtime to give Malone a 2-1 win over Gouverneur in boys’ soccer.

Missy Brean scores twice as Ticonderoga upsets Beekmantown 2-1 in girls’ soccer.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Bill Garrison’s goal lifts unbeaten Elizabethtown-Lewis to a 1-0 win over Chazy.

Tom Lacey replaces Chris Lacombe as boys’ basketball coach at St. John’s Central.

Lake Placid’s Brad Streeter wins the First 30K Fort to Fort Run in one hour, 51:46 minutes.

Jennifer Smith and Lisa Roach are 3-time winners and Kathryn Reiss adds a double to lead AuSable Valley to a 97-78 win over PHS in girls’ swimming.

Shawn Worden scores a goal and assists on another as AuSable Valley edges MAI 3-1 and takes over first in CVAC boys’ soccer.

Carol Latremore scores twice and Suzanne Souza and Jenny Doser, one each, to lead Chazy past Elizabethtown-Lewis 4-2 in a battle of division leaders. Becky Aubin and T.J. Cornwright score for the Lions.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

Bill Callahan is in on 20 tackles in Plattsburgh State’s 20-0 loss to Cheyney State in football.

Dave Baker runs for one score and passes for two more in Plattsburgh High’s 43-9 victory over Ticonderoga. Dave Keller also scores along with Dick Bushey, who returns a kickoff 75 yards. Jeff Carpenter comes up with 2 interceptions. Neil Coley scores for Ticonderoga.

John Munson Sr. rolls a 719 series, the highest triple at North Bowl in several years. Willsboro’s Dale Boardman bowls a 290 game, the best in two years.

Chris Cote scores to lift Chazy over Northern Adirondack in a meeting of CVAC soccer unbeatens. Gary Boire and Brent Wilson also score while Scott Lloyd and Dan Harris have goals for NAC.

Pete Hooper scores twice as Elizabethtown-Lewis tops Schroon Lake 2-1 to remain unbeaten.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Witherbee’s Johnny Podres hurls 8 shutout innings and contributes a hit in the Dodgers 6-1 win over the Yankees in Game 3 of the World Series.

Mike Quinn’s fourth goal of the game gives Westport a 5-4 overtime victory over Crown Point. Mike Carpenter also scores while Terry Brooks scores twice for the Panthers. Robert Gonyo and Richard Cornelli add goals.

Ron Fairley runs for 4 scores and Leon Angevine, Terry Ladd and Al Russell add one each as Peru drubs St. John’s 48-7. Tim Meschinelli scores for the Irish.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Shine Brault belts a 2-run homer, D. Favreau adds a 2-run single and Marv Hendricks doubles in a run to lead Cadyville over the Bloomingdale Firemen 9-4 in the Adirondack League championship game. Roger Stephenson has an RBI single and Ben Rieck, an RBI double for the Firemen.

Warren LaSalle scores 2 goals and Larry Merrill, one, to lead Peru past Champlain in CCIL soccer. Pelkey and Elkins score for Champlain.

Ticonderoga overcomes Bob Allen’s 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to defeat PHS 7-6. Vanderwalker scores for the Sentinels.

Charlie Murphy runs for the only touchdown and Ron LeBlanc passes to Larry Yandow for the PAT in MAI’s 7-6 win over Mineville.

70 YEARS AGO (1943)

Bob Mackey and Harold Stokes score touchdowns as PHS defeats MAI 15-0 in football.

Donald O’Hara scores 2 touchdowns in St. John’s 12-0 victory over Lake Placid.
