Ticonderoga linebacker Jeremy Hall and Peru tight end Steve St. Clair are named to the First Team All-State in football.
Steve Moore and Len Pereira each pick up four points and Mike Mondello stars in goal as Plattsburgh State thumps RIT 9-2.
Brian Kochanowicz scores 23 points and Plattsburgh State overcomes Jim O’Connor’s 32-point effort to beat Bridgewater State 85-70 in the final of the Cardinal men’s basketball Classic.
Peru and Malone share the title in the first tie in the history of the annual Peru Wrestling Classic. Canton’s Mitch Clark is the outstanding wrestler.

Kara Kitchen nets 19 points to lead AuSable Valley to a 35-29 win over Peru.
Dan Brod and Terry Brannock each score 16 points, Will Fahey adds 15, and Bob Dedrick, 14, to lead Ticonderoga to a 69-58 come-from-behind win over Northern Adirondack. Jon Rushford leads the Bobcats with 21.
Kevin Burke tallies 21 points to spark Chateaugay to a 64-58 win over Massena.
Chris Hay and Scott Broderick score goals and Rick Garrand makes 11 saves for the shutout in St. John’s 2-0 win over MAI. Denis Genereux stops 29 shots for the Mounties.
Plattsburgh State rebounds from stunning losses to Holy Cross and Curry to shock nationally ranked Providence College 4-3. Rob McDougal, Jamie Reidy, Shane Ferras and Tim Collins score goals while Tony Martino comes up with 32 saves.

Goaltender Michel Vallieres stars in his Plattsburgh State debut as the Cardinals defeat the University of Calgary 4-1.
Peru standout Pete Ewald is named to the First Team, All-State in football.
Bernie Bullis sinks nine of 10 free-throw attempts in the second half as St. John’s upsets PHS 43-42.
Steve LaDuke’s basket with 11 seconds to play gives Dannemora an 82-81 victory over Schroon Lake. LaDuke finishes with 21 points while teammate Pete Petrashune adds 15.
40 YEARS AGO (1973)
Andy Russo and Bill Callahan of Moriah join Mickey Carpenter of St. John’s on the All-State team in football.
Salt Lake City beats out Lake Placid for the right to bid for the 1976 Winter Olympics only months after Denver bows out as host site.
Jerry Dolly scores 19 points and Dave Olcott and Les Farrell add 14 each in Elizabethtown-Lewis’s 77-54 victory over Chazy. Tom Rice scores 26 for the Eagles.
50 YEARS AGO (1963)
Tom Latour and Cathy Smith win regional elimination rounds in Junior Singles bowling at Nash Recreation Parlor.
Plattsburgh State’s Mike Stanton, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, ranks 10th in the nation in rebounding, averaging 16.1 a game. Six-foot-five Tom Chapin, leading scorer on the freshman team, is promoted to the varsity.
Larry LaBarge scores 29 points and Gary LaBarge, 26, as unbeaten Ellenburg defeats Dannemora 88-54 in Clinton County County Basketball League play. Tom King leads the Knights with 18 while Jerry LaRose adds 15.
Terry Ladd nets 20 points and Charlie Finnegan, 19, as Peru rallies to defeat Keeseville 75-59, overcoming Dave Mussen’s 23-point effort.

William Burger, William Lindberg, John Lindberg and Fred Brandt of the Champlain College Bluejays are named to the New York State All-Star Collegiate Soccer Team.
Clevice Fesette scores 16 points and Tom Pearl, 11, to lead St. John’s Academy to a 47-39 victory over Plattsburgh High. Fran Horne hits for 13 and Wayne Benson, 12, for PHS.
Neal Rutt (137 pounds), Benny Lavorando (147) and Harv Jessum (157) are Champlain College’s top wrestlers heading into three meets in New York City.
Hank Whisher scores 33 points to spark Altona to a 58-52 victory over the Champlain Savoys. Dick Bodette nets 17 in a losing cause.
Jimmy Sears scores 14 points and Urgil Votraw, 9, to lead St. John’s to a 50-38 win over Plattsburgh High in the final of the March of Dimes Alumni Basketball Tournament. Jim O’Connell leads the PHS grads with 10.
70 YEARS AGO (1943)
Gettys scores 11 points to lead Rouses Point to a 24-23 victory over Dannemora in the North Country Basketball League. Brooks has 8 points for Dannemora.
LaRose nets 12 points in Morrisonville’s 35-33 win over Ellenburg. V. Gardner and Cheeseman score 10 points apiece for Ellenburg.
New York State reports that 32 sportsmen die and 158 are injured during the 1942 big-game hunting season.
