10 YEARS AGO (2004)

Former Malone standout Kelly Wescott, a junior forward for the University of Rochester, is named to the ECAC Div. III Women’s Upstate Basketball All-Stars, First Team. Plattsburgh State’s Scottie Rovito receives honorable mention.

Mooers Forks native Jesse Boulerice scores 2 goals for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 6-4 loss to the New York Islanders.

Lori Babbie tosses a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Northeastern Clinton rallies to beat Ravena 3-2 and gain a split in softball in Utica. Courtney Coryea collects 3 hits for the Cougars.

20 YEARS AGO (1994)

Hilary Stockbridge, Meghan Welch, A.J. Guffey and Winter Guffey of the Plattsburgh Piranhas achieve all-star status for the Adirondack District at the Eastern Zone Swimming Championships.

Saranac wrestling coach Mike Hogan is presented with the Ray Holmes Sportsmanship Award by the CVAC.

Darwin Carr scores 30 points, MVP Dwayne Caldwell adds 29 and Tony Bruin, 18, to lead Team Albany over Little Caesar’s/Merons, 120-119, in the PBA Basketball Tournament final. Tony Traver and Tom Huerter score 29 in a losing cause while Leroy Witherspoon nets 24.

Northern Adirondack’s Amy Boulrice is named most valuable player and AuSable Valley’s Sandy Hoey, coach of the year, in CVAC volleyball.

25 YEARS AGO (1989)

Students at the newly centralized school of Seton Catholic choose Knights as the school nickname and Athletic Director Tom Tregan names John and Larry Carpenter, Mike Dandrow, Gayle Giambruno, Larry Converse, Curt Latremore, Jeff Passino, Bruce Stevens, Mark Elmore and Bill Bechard as coaches.

Shawn LaValley and Jeff Dumas hurl Clinton CC to a sweep of the Norwich University junior varsity in baseball.

John Konowitz, former AuSable Valley and North Country CC coach, is named men’s basketball coach at SUNY Cortland.

Duane Bibeau, Russell Holland, Jeff Jiampetti and Jay Perras of St. John’s will play for New York in the National High School Hockey Tournament in Chicago.
