10 YEARS AGO (2004)

Former Malone standout Amber Goppert, in her final game for the University of Richmond, scores 21 points, grabs 7 rebounds and gets 4 assists in an 81-72 loss to Creighton in the NIT semifinals.

Bob Moses (first), Ed Gardner (fourth) and D.J. O’Neil (fifth) lead Lake Placid to victory in the Second Rotary Club World Championship Ski Race at Whiteface.

The Plattsburgh YMCA men’s 200-meter medley relay team of Dan Elliott, Shane Hubbell, Jack Honor and Stefan Crain qualify for the national championships.

Tim Barnewall fires in 37 points to lead Bub’s Quik Stop to a 95-87 victory over Blue Gene Farms in the A Division final of the Malone Adult Basketball League. Scott Poirier scores 33 for Blue Gene.

Willsboro’s Michael Clarke places 15th in aerials and Plattsburgh’s Kenna Nash, 25th in moguls, at the US Freestyle Skiing Championships.

20 YEARS AGO (1994)

Chateaugay native Kevin O’Neill, 37, leaves Marquette to take over as men’s basketball coach at the University of Tennessee. Within the week,

Mike Deane, 42, leaves Siena to fill the Marquette job.

Plattsburgh’s Nathan Bilow, 11, sinks 22 of 25 shots to win the New York State Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Championship for his age group.

Don Verkey scores 29 points, Doug Beebe adds 20 and Shane Parliament, 14, as Little Caesar’s defeats Custom Canvas, 76-74, to complete a sweep of season and playoff honors in the Midas Adult Basketball League. Tom Lacey nets 25 for Custom Canvas.

Malone’s Norm Pomainville, 26, wins the Northern New York 8-Ball Championship for the second time in three years, beating John Lazore of Akwesasne in the final.

Saranac’s Ann Parks is named Most Valuable Player and AuSable Valley’s John Zerrahn Coach of the Year in CVAC girls’ basketball.

25 YEARS AGO (1989)

Saranac fullback Julia Uhler is chosen to play for the American Soccer Ambassadors on their summer European Tour.
