Heather Brewer scores 3 goals to lead unbeaten Lady Giroux’s to a 7-2 win over King’s Construction in North Country Women’s Soccer League play. Michelle Derrigo’s 3 goals spark Garrow & Sons to a 5-1 win over the City Kickers.

Nate Bilow scores 24 points, Brad Manor chips in with 16 and Mike Martin adds 15 to lead The Owlyout to a 76-71 win over previously unbeaten Peabody’s in Men’s Summer Basketball League action.

Diavalo Fletcher, Aaron Judd, Donny Coolidge, Matt McCormick, David Waldron, T.J. Mussaw and Cory Desmaris lead the Clinton County Mariners’ attack in a 14-2, 14-2 sweep of Granville.

Kevin Bordeau belts a 3-run homer while David Smith, Brett Paepke and Mike Poveda each contribute 3 hits as Plattsburgh Post beats the Post 326 Adirondacks 15-5.

Greg Anderson passes for 2 scores and Matt Sames tosses a TD pass as the Plattsburgh North Stars hold on to edge the Staten Island Bulldogs 28-27 in their Empire Football League opener. James Zigler scores twice while Tommie Wilder and Jerome McCray each add a touchdown for the Stars. Shawn McGee contributes a 28-yard field goal.

Irene LaCount of Plattsburgh finishes first in B Division All Events and fourth in singles in the New York State Women’s Bowling Association Tournament. Joanne Ferris of Keeseville comes in second in C Division singles while Julie Liberty and Jean Wood of Plattsburgh place second in doubles.

25 YEARS AGO (1987)

Scott Baker pitches a one-hitter and Lee Yaeger a seven-hitter as the Redford River Rats sweep Lyon Mountain 1-0, 12-2 to take sole possession of first place in the CVBL. Timmy Drollette, Tim Newell, Robin Vaughan, Eric Keysor and Glenn Petrashune are the offensive stars for Redford.

Tim Doyle fights off a strong challenge from Tony Duprey, Jr. to win the Willard Hanmer Memorial One-Man Guideboat Race for the fifth straight year.

Janet Rabideau goes 3-for-3 to back winning pitcher Beaner Roberts as the Blue Note Restaurant knocks off previously unbeaten Fox Hill Maple in the Little Towns Women’s Softball League.

Paul Hackett and Darrin McDonough score goals as the Blitz edge the Hawks 2-1 in the men’s soccer battle of Elizabethtown.

30 YEARS AGO (1982)

Jim Rovito and John Daunais drill home runs to lead Bernie’s Lounge to a 9-6 win over R.O.T.W. in the Sportsmen’s Slo-Pitch Softball League. John Nicotera goes 3-for-4 and Paul Dingman belts a homer in a losing cause.

Penny Manly collects 4 hits to spark Peabody’s to a 9-7 victory over The Rook in Women’s City Softball action.

Winning pitcher Jodi Duquette goes 5-for-5 to lead North Plattsburgh past Keeseville 22-3 in County Pony Softball. Vera Bertoli strikes out 14 in leading Cliff Haven to a 4-3 win over the Peru Broncos.

Paul LaRock pitches a 2-hitter while Frank Miller and Jim Trombley toss 3-hitters as Post 20 sweeps to the Glens Falls American Legion Tournament title.

40 YEARS AGO (1972)

Class B winner Bill McCormick, 12, of Cadyville edges out Class A winner Jim Buran of Plattsburgh to claim the overall championship in the City of Plattsburgh Soap Box Derby.

Steve Dubray collects a homer and single in support of Joey Burl’s one-hit pitching as North Plattsburgh A edges Lyon Mountain 5-4 in Pony League play.

Jane Canning strikes out 17 and Debbie Doe goes 5-for-6 to lead Dannemora to a 13-10, 9-inning win over Keeseville in Senior Girls softball. Rebbie Benoit

is 5-for-5 with 2 homers for Keeseville.

Richie Daul, with 5, leads the Adirondack Slo-Pitch Softball League in homers at the midway point. Ben Hailey and Al Benware each have 4 homers.

Steve Chilton and John Zerrahn manage the only hits off side-arming Jack Repetto who strikes out 20 in leading Arlington, Mass. to a 5-0 victory over Post 20 in the championship game of the Plattsburgh Junior Legion Tournament.

50 YEARS AGO (1962)

Bob Bruno completes lap in 24.3 seconds on his way to his fifth Sportsmen’s feature win of the season at Airborne Park. Dan Hayes wins the Road Class feature.

Dave Collins singles in the winning run in the 10th inning to give AuSable Forks a 4-3 win over previously unbeaten Lyon Mountain in CVBL play. Gary Barber and Paul Savage each chip in with 2 hits to back winning pitcher Walter Barton.

Mike Lopez pitches a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts as Keeseville dumps Dannemora 4-0 in County Little League action.

Dennis Mooney of Plattsburgh wins the Middle Atlantic Junior Instinctive Bow Championship for archers ages 12-15.

Ed Keddy pitches a 2-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Champlain past West Chazy 1-0 in County Little League play.

Mark Stetz pitches a no-hitter and Tom Adams cracks a 3-run triple in Merkel’s 11-0 victory over Plattsburgh Paint & Glass in City Babe Ruth action.

Frank Rock wins the Micro-Midget Auto Race at Westport with Mike Pratt and Ken Straight claiming the next two spots. Ronnie Duprey wins the Micro feature and Nancy Burpee, the 12-16 feature.

60 YEARS AGO (1952)

Bruce Momot’s 3-run homer sparks Dannemora to a 9-7 win over Peru in County Grasshopper play.

Bo Benware hurls Bloomingdale past Cadyville 5-4, enabling the Firemen to stay tied for first in the Adirondack League. Bob Ryan takes the loss.

Roger Tolosky drives in 4 runs with a double and a triple and Clarence Benjamin pitches a 4-hitter for Lyon Mountain in a 14-0 thrashing of Morrisonville.

Paul Vallieres lines a pinch-hit single to center, scoring Bob Bouyea with the winning run in the 8th inning as the Plattsburgh Rheingolds edge Chateaugay. Ron Covey pitches a 4-hitter for the win.

70 YEARS AGO (1942)

Dutton comes through a triple and a double and McCorry contributes a double and a single as the Saranac Ramblers defeat the St. John’s Shamrocks 7-2. Winning pitcher Beauchemin snags a short pop fly to initiate a triple play.
