You can look back over the last 70 years at some of the area athletes and personalities who made headlines in area sports. Flashback will revive memories of great local athletes and outstanding team successes.

10 YEARS AGO (1999)
Nikki Barry scores and Lindsay Myers stars in goal as PHS snaps Northeastern Clinton's 13-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win.

Sarah Paul and Gwen Uhler finish 1-2 for Saranac, but Saranac Lake, led by Kayleen Walsh and Analise Zaunbrecher, wins the cross-country showdown 28-30.

Mike Hayes runs for 3 TDs and defensive tackle Cory Coady runs back an interception for a score in Tupper Lake's 34-15 win over Seton Catholic.

Kelly Duffy finishes second, Heather Spellman, seventh, and Amy Tolosky, 10th, as Plattsburgh State edges Cortland by one point to win its first SUNYAC women's cross-country crown.

Nikki Demers scores twice for the girls in a 3-0 win over Wells while Jean and Ian Laurin lift the boys to a 2-0 win over National Sports Academy as Chazy sweeps the MVAC soccer title games.

20 YEARS AGO (1989)
David Ransom runs for 138 yards and a TD and also catches a TD pass from Tim Bortnick as AuSable Valley stuns previously unbeaten Ticonderoga 12-7.

Keely Dwyer scores 4 goals to lead Chazy to a 5-2 win over Keene in an MVAC battle for first.

Elizabeth Degen's goal gives Westport a 1-0 upset of Willsboro.

Becca Douglass helps Peru beat Seton Catholic as the Indians finish unbeaten in boys and girls cross country.

Travis Gagnon gets 4 goals in Keene's 7-3 win over Lake Placid.

Mike Hartigan scores 3 goals while Mike Fay, Travis Carey and Todd LaFountain each get one as NCCS clinches its first CVAC soccer title in 9 years. The Cougars go on to finish unbeaten at 11-0-3.

Kelli O'Connell, Mary Rickson and Debbie Frenyea score second-half goals, rallying Seton Catholic to a 3-1 win over NCCS that gives the Knights the CVAC Div. I title. The Knights beat Peru 2-1 to go undefeated.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Marty Snow shakes off a hip pointer to run for 136 yards and Paul Savage and John Braid score touchdowns in AuSable Valley's 14-6 win over Saranac Lake.

Carol Latremore's second goal of the game, 35 seconds into overtime, gives unbeaten Chazy a 3-2 win over Elizabethtown-Lewis and the MVAC soccer title.

Darrin Cook scores 4 goals as unbeaten Chateaugay posts a 5-4 overtime win over Hammond.

Kris Yeckley scores to give Peru a 1-0 win over AuSable Valley and the Div. I title in soccer.

Beekmantown's Sue Klein finishes third in the Saratoga Invitational.

30 YEARS AGO (1979)
Freshmen Gaetan D'Anjou and Chip Grabowski each score twice and defenseman Keith Wright gets 3 assists as Plattsburgh State ices Colgate 7-4.

Jennifer McCormick claims 3 firsts and Shelly Winter and Katie Molholsky 2 each as AuSable Valley upsets Malone in swimming 103-69. Meg Connors is a double winner for the Huskies.

Alicia Papke, Alison Spear and Tricia Rillahan lead Peru to a 91-81 win over AuSable Valley as the Indians clinch the CVAC swim title in their first year.

Scott Carpenter runs for 3 scores and throws 2 TD passes to Kevin Sprague in Moriah's 34-12 win over Saranac.

Freshman Dana Dobson of Peru is named the SUNY Cortland Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Freshman Dan Capone catches 11 passes for 141 yards and 2 TDS in Hamilton's 21-20 loss to Rochester.

40 YEARS AGO (1969)
Mike St. Louis throws for 2 touchdowns and runs for one in Beekmantown's 27-0 win over PHS. Steve Ducatte adds 2 TDs and Dick Denny, one.

Tom Shutts, Carlos Lagos and Mike Vanderbogard score in Ellenburg's 3-0 win over Mooers in a snowstorm while Joe Kourofsky, Tom Noel, Mark LaVigne and Frank Yasment get goals in Lyon Mountain's 4-0 victory over Dannemora. Jeff Benjamin records the shutout.

Zane Hathaway scores twice and John Tucker and Gilbert Belzile, once each, as Willsboro tops Crown Point 4-2. Dave Bordeaux has 2 goals for the Panthers.

50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Chris Greer throws 2 TD passes, runs for a score and returns an interception for one in St. John's 47-21 win over Port Henry.

George Buysse scores 2 goals in Keene's 6-3 win over Willsboro while Tom McGibbon gets 3 in Crown Point's 6-5 victory over Northwood in soccer.

Dave Collins and Jeff Layhee score for Saranac in a 4-0 win over Lyon Mountain while Bill O'Neill, Jerry Campbell, Mike Karaoulanis, Mike O'Connor and George Vilolobos all get goals in MAI's 10-0 soccer win over Altona.

Bill Larrow scores from 7 yards and Eddie Nels adds the PAT as Mineville upsets MAI 7-6 in the mud at Bailey Avenue. Rod Poissant scores on a 45-yard run for the Muzzlers, who miss the extra point.

60 YEARS AGO (1949)
Halfback Charlie Lewis of Chazy helps Union College beat RPI 14-6 for its fourth win of the season and ninth straight dating back to 1948.

Don Gregoire converts a penalty kick to give Champlain a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Peru in soccer.

Walter Dermatis of Lake Placid is a member of Ithaca College's unbeaten soccer team.

70 YEARS AGO (1939)
Allen Fountain scores on a 2-yard run and Don Colby adds the point after, giving Lake Placid a 7-0 win over Plattsburgh.

Quarterback Harry Dragoon scores 2 TDs and adds a PAT to lead MAI to a 13-0 win over St. Mary's of St. Albans, Vt.
