10 YEARS AGO (1999) Rick Liddell and Judy Englert capture the club titles at Ticonderoga Golf & Country Club while Matt Fredette and Kathy Barcomb win the North Country Golf Club titles in Rouses Point.
Matt King shoots a 157 to beat Bob Zuckerman by 3 strokes for the Adirondack golf crown while Cornelia Forrence takes the ladies' title.
Bryan Lewis, Casey Cartier and Craig Dumas are the leading hitters as Wild Bill's rallies to defeat Burke Village Market for the Malone AmVets Slo-Pitch crown.
Mike Perrotte clinches the 358 Modified season title at Frogtown with a second-place finish.
20 YEARS AGO (1989) Dean Rock raps out 3 hits and John Coryer gets the win as Clinton Coal edges Pray's Market 7-6 to win the Peru Slo-Pitch Softball League championship series, 3 games to 2. Bob Curry has 3 hits for Pray's.
Hockey's Dineen family takes part in the Fourth Ward Golf Tournament. Bill, the father, joins NHL stars Kevin and Gord, and Plattsburgh State's Jerry Dineen for the fundraiser.
Brian Raville bests defending champion Mike O'Connor 7 and 6 to win his third Bluff Point club title.
Sections 2 and 7 agree to play 2 postseason football games at the Carrier Dome the day after Thanksgiving.
25 YEARS AGO (1984) Peter Stone, Robert Garrow, Edward Redcay, Alice Backus and Doc Wiley are the first inductees into the Plattsburgh State Athletic Hall of Fame.
John O'Donnell scores 3 goals and Louis Finnacharo, 2, as the Plattsburgh Pioneers defeat Three Rivers, 6-4, in their first Quebec Major Junior Hockey League exhibition game.
Mike Collin wins the Expert Heavyweight Class and overall honors in the Adirondack Boardsailing Championships on Lake George.
The Westport foursome of Patti and Peggy McLean, Marsha Lobdell and Grace Reese win the New York State Division of the American Cancer Society national golf championship in Cooperstown.
Karen Trombley rips a 3-run triple and Donna LaValley adds a 2-run homer and P & J's Bar goes on to sweep Fox Hill Maple in the Little Towns Women's Softball championships.
30 YEARS AGO (1979) Robert Jock scores for the Lakesiders in a 1-0 win over the Green Bowl of Chateaugay in the North Country Soccer League final. Joe Varin stars in goal.
Wayne Pratt of Isabella's wins the Joe Rohe Memorial Trophy as the MVP of the Black Fly Slo-Pitch Softball playoffs. Pratt goes 11 for 18 and handles every chance in the field flawlessly.
Alain Bayeur, 17, recovers to shoot a 2-under 34 on the back nine and goes on to a 3-stroke victory over Joe Favro for the North Country Golf Club championship. Audrey Gregoire wins the ladies' title.
40 YEARS AGO (1969)
Louie Trepasso (peewees), Jim McLean (midgets) and Bill Gadjewski (Babe Ruth) are named the most valuable players in their respective divisions of the Port Henry youth baseball program.
Mike O'Brian, Dennis Phillips, Brian Moore, Marty Fitzpatrick and John Ashline all get 2 hits as Rouses Point beats Beekmantown 13-4 to win the County Little League title.
Bugsy Stevens nearly laps the entire field in running away with the 100-lap feature at Airborne Speedway. Only runner-up Marcel Coriveau is on the same lap at the finish. Ed Pieniazek, Tom Remington and Dick Nephew round out the top five.
Stu Harrison retires the Stay Brothers Cup by winning his third straight Bluff Point men's club championship. Jim Andre is second with Tommy St. Dennis, third.
50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Jerry Juntunen singles in Dale Klein with the winning run in the bottom of the 13th, giving Lyon Mountain a 7-6 win over Peru and the Adirondack League regular-season title. McElroy gets 4 hits for Peru. Tom Kowalowski and Jeff Chase each get 2 hits for the Miners.
Jean Oliver pitches a 2-hitter and joins teammates A. LaPorte and G. LaPorte with 2 hits as Keeseville claims the County Midget girls' crown with a win over Lyon Mountain. Linda Facteau and Judy Gonzales have the Lyon Mountain hits.
Morrisonville's Mike Rock pitches a no-hitter, but loses to the Beekmantown peewees 3-1. Jim Corron tosses a 2-hitter for the win.
60 YEARS AGO (1949) Dr. George Bock wins the Plattsburgh Golf Club championship (A.A. Gioiosa Trophy) for the third time while Mrs. S.T. Quinn captures the ladies title (Kathryn Farrell Cup). Mrs. Archie MacDougal earns the Sharron Cup as the ladies' handicap club champion.
Babe Duquette belts a 3-run homer and Roy Dubuque pitches a shutout in Adirondack League baseball.
Wally Stachowicz of McMartin Motors no-hits T.J. Ryan in city softball play.
70 YEARS AGO (1939) Vincent Dollard, who played 4 years of football at Notre Dame, is named teacher and coach at St. John's Academy.
Former Plattsburgh Majors standouts pitcher Steve Trambach and infielder Al Glossop are recalled by the New York Giants.
