10 YEARS AGO (1999)
Tom Kowalowski goes 5-for-5 with a homer and 5 RBI in Game 2 as the Lyon Mountain Miners sweep the Saranac Braves out of the Champlain Valley Baseball League lead.

Plattsburgh native Heather Rowe is named to the U.S. sailing team for the Pan-Am Games.

Tim Barnewall scores 37 points and grabs 17 rebounds as Chateaugay Bowl knocks off previously unbeaten Dabiew's Market in the Malone Summer Basketball League. Mark Benware nets 25 for Dabiew's.

Jeremy Rich, standout defenseman for Saranac Lake, is named to the New York State Hockey Coaches' All-State Team for the second year in a row.

Jon Parks repeats as YMCA Y-Tri champion while Katie Roden is the top female.

The Lake Champlain Lakers age 16 AAU team wins its own tournament with a 4-0 record. Dorothy Albright, Stephanie Murray, Amber Goppert, Allison DeFranco and Kyra Lajoie lead the Lakers.



20 YEARS AGO (1989)
Michael Callahan, 15, of Moriah, is a rising star on the motocross circuit.

Jim Ryan raps out 5 hits, including a 2-run homer, in Post 20's sweep of Montpelier, Vt. Jason Miller and Warren Horner also homer for Plattsburgh.

Tom Tregan resigns as athletic director at Seton Catholic to take a teaching position at Chazy Central.

Fred Siguardson scores 2 goals in Chateaugay Bowl's 6-0 win over Chazy-Harvey's in men's soccer.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Plattsburgh's Dave Daniels and Danielle Cherniak of Cohoes are repeat winners in the 14th-Annual Champlain Valley Marathon.

Dave Gosnell belts a grand slam to lift the AuSable Forks Spirits to an 8-6 win over the Altona Bombers.

Jim Andre shoots a 224 for 54 holes to beat Chip Ward by 3 strokes in the Adirondack Open at the Lake Placid Club Resort. Andre also cards a 30-37-67 at Bluff Point to win the Sharron Cup and Rowe Senior Men's Cup with tournament- record scores.

30 YEARS AGO (1979)
Lake Placid basketball standout Nip Rogers accepts a scholarship to George Washington University.

Kent Pepper spins a no-hitter as Levy Brothers beats Plattsburgh AFB in Babe Ruth baseball. John Boule has a triple while Steve Welch and Perry Buck each get 2 hits.

Richie Collins and Chris Boule combine on a no-hitter in Condo's win over the American Legion in Little League play. Tom Cummings and Ralph Stone each get 3 hits.

Kevin Curry pitches a 4-hitter in Ellenburg's 2-1 win over AuSable Forks in CVBL action. Tom Hackett allows only 3 hits in a losing cause.

40 YEARS AGO (1969)
New York State champion Charlie Carlo records a 530 score — 30 points shy of perfection — for the highest animal round score ever in the North Country.

Terry Lagree pitches a no-hitter for Dannemora in Babe Ruth baseball and Todd Lashway hurls a no-hitter for the City Firemen in Little League play.

Desi Horton and Dee Miller combine for 7 hits and Pauline Wright strikes out 15 as Plattsburgh beats Peru in Babe Ruth softball.

Pip LaFountain raps out 2 triples as Plattsburgh Post 20 beats Lake Placid 8-4 to open the American Legion baseball season.

50 YEARS AGO (1959)
Bob McElroy and John Walker get 2 hits apiece as unbeaten Peru survives a close call with Cadyville in Adirondack League baseball. Bob Bouyea socks 2 homers for Cadyville.

Jeff Burns tosses a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts and also hits his fifth homer in four games as Ginsberg's beats Condo's in Little League play. Jack Bradrick and Chris Rowlson each get 3 hits for Ginsberg's.

Mike Dandrow slugs his fifth homer of the season in Ubl & Adams victory over McMartin Motors in Little League play.

Billy McNeil pitches a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts as Nitzi's whips Albany Dispatch. Ed Rabideau gets 3 hits, including a homer, for Nitzi's. Bob Burke has the lone hit off McNeil.

60 YEARS AGO (1949)
Bob Cadieux pitches a 3-hitter and Bob Rougeau doubles in 2 runs as Diamond Match snaps McMartin Motors' 11-game winning streak in the City Softball League.

Peru graduate William Turner winds up the season second in hitting on the Albany Business College baseball team with a .350 average.

Joe Lashua rips a 3-run homer and Dick Powell adds a solo shot to back LaBounty's 2-hit, 10-strikeout pitching performance as Peru thumps Ellenburg 15-5 to win the CCIL baseball crown.

70 YEARS AGO (1939)
CCC Camp S102 beats the B'Nai Brith Bees 8-6 in City Softball. Erwin Bornstein has a triple for the Bees.

Bob Sharp clubs 2 homers as the Wahoos hammer the Mohawks 27-6 in Plattsburgh junior baseball.
