10 YEARS AGO (1999) Nick Fitzsimmons wins the 22nd-Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Footrace in one hour.
Jason Jabaut runs a 4:11.8 mile to finish sixth in the Foot Locker National Outdoor Championships.
Malone's Cory Russell pitches a no-hitter against Granville in American Legion junior baseball. Jeremy Dupree belts a 2-run homer and Robbie Bessette picks up 3 hits.
John Raymond retires for the third time as Saranac Lake football coach with a 174-53-2 record for 27 years.
Dan Marbut comes up with 5 interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, in Lake City's 24-12 football win over Glove Cities.
20 YEARS AGO (1989) Jon Tellstone goes 5-for-5 and Randy Collins collects 3 hits as Lake Placid American Legion Post 326 defeats the Plattsburgh Cavaliers 16-5. Steve DeCarlo belts 2 homers for the Cavaliers.
Beekmantown, which offered high-school hockey in the late 1970s, announces it will return to the ice with former St. John's coach Gary Ryan leading the Eagles' comeback.
Steve Criss raps out 3 hits and Robin Vaughan gets 2 hits and 2 RBI to back winning pitcher Scott Baker as Redford knocks off the previously unbeaten Plattsburgh Cardinals 7-6.
25 YEARS AGO (1984) Azin Jahanbakhsh scores 3 goals and Ed Merrens, Chris Herdic and Mike Litton 2 each to lead the Plattsburgh Football Club to an 11-2 win over Crown Point in Adirondack Amateur Soccer Association play. Marty Rice and Don Foote score for Crown Point.
Todd Heywood, 11, of West Chazy wins a 17-foot boat and nearly takes the grand prize in the LCI Fishing Derby with his 7.66-pound laker and 6.39-pound salmon.
Former Willsboro standout John Marcotte, a four-year starter and an All-State selection in soccer, is named the Senior Athlete of the Year at Potsdam State.
Steve Parrish, Tony Fazzone, Steve Jock, Chris King, Joe McMahon, Bill LeBeau and Robbie Calkins all connect as Post 20 drills 9 homers over the weekend in a sweep of Glens Falls and Hudson Falls.
Chuck Frost, Darryl McDonough and Jay Dumas lead Keene to an 8-1 win over Newcomb, giving the Beavers their 3rd straight Section VII Class D2 baseball banner.
30 YEARS AGO (1979) Plattsburgh High's Mark Reed defeats West Genesee's Scott Munro, 6-3, 7-4, to become the first Section VII player to win a match at the New York State High School Tennis Championships.
Peru's Brian Aikens finishes sixth in the 100-meter dash at the state track & field championships with a time of 10.8 seconds.
Jim Noel, Mike Boyea, Mike Chase and Bill Durnin get 2 hits apiece as Northern Adirondack beats Norwood-Norfolk 9-4 in the first official regional baseball playoff.
Peggy Warren is 5-for-5 with 5 RBI and Marie Bajko, 4-for-4 with 3 RBI as NAC, behind the 4-hit pitching of Julie Pageau, beats St. Lawrence 11-2 in softball.
Johnny Flynn pitches a no-hitter and Danny Senecal's 2-out single in the sixth breaks up Andy McGuinness's no-hit try as MAI beats Ogdensburg 2-0. Dan Courneene's running grab in right field helps preserve Flynn's gem.
Steve Mildon pitches a 3-hitter and helps his cause with a 2-run triple as Crown Point downs Parishville-Hopkinton 6-1.
The Willsboro girls complete an amazing sports year with a 15-6 win over Harrisville. The Warriors, who finished 12-0 in softball, win sectional titles in soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball.
40 YEARS AGO (1969) Mike Perry pitches a no-hitter and Allie Chase singles in the winning run in the 10th as the Lyon Mountain Miners edge Raymondville 2-1.
Ticonderoga's Dick Johndrow receives an award from the National Rifle Association for the Most Outstanding Whitetail Deer taken during the 1968 hunting season. The 12-pointer has the 11th largest rack in New York State history.
Basil Duquette pitches a no-hitter and goes 3-for-3 to lead Plattsburgh Coca-Cola to a 2-0 win over Airborne in Little League play. Curtis Bushey chips in with 2 hits.
50 YEARS AGO (1959) Jim Carr's booming grand slam sends Condo's on to a 14-7 win over CV Paint in Little League play.
Waddington's Buck Halliday turns in the fastest lap ever at Airborne Park — 27.7 seconds — on his way to victory in a 20-lap Sportsman's feature. Bud Bessore of Massena is second, followed by Ellenubrg's Dick Goodell and Dick Nephew, and Bobby Trombley of Mooers.
Gary Barber pitches a perfect game for Al's Barber Shop over Fountain's Meat Market in the AuSable Forks Softball League. Joe McCann homers for Al's.
60 YEARS AGO (1949) Don Tolosky strikes out 15 and rips 2 triples to lead Lyon Mountain to a 4-3 win over Crown Point for the Section VII Class B baseball title. Siskavich gets 2 hits.
Defending champ Mineville manages only 3 hits off Chet Cleland, but beats Plattsburgh High 3-2 in the Class A final. Tony Fernandez gets a key double while Johnny Podres and Barcomb each get 2 hits. Jim O'Connell has 2 hits for Plattsburgh.
70 YEARS AGO (1939) Defiette of Cadyville hurls the first no-hitter of the high-school baseball season in beating Peru 4-0.
Winning pitcher Russell Parrott helps his cause with a home run as the Plattsburgh Midgets beat Trombley's Our Gang 15-5 on the BFD mill diamond.
