10 YEARS AGO (1998)
Matt Duquette pitches a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts and helps his cause with 3 hits, including 2 triples, as PHS beats Beekmantown 5-0. Aaron Retherford's first-inning single is the Eagles' only hit.
Lacey Hutchins hammers 2 home runs, including a grand slam, to power Westport to a 28-25 win over Crown Point in softball. Janelle Firlik homers for the Panthers.
Shana Fessette pitches a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts and Chesney Penfield gets 3 hits in Beekmantown's win over Moriah. Meghan Donahue belts a homer for the Eagles.
Andrea Staepel rallies to win the 3,200-meter relay for Ticonderoga to set the tempo for the Sentinels' 74-58 victory that avenges a big loss to PHS in their last meeting in girls' track & field. Krissi Bianchine, Sherri Ott and Mindy Burgey also star for the Sentinels.
20 YEARS AGO (1988)
Kathy Brandell Champagne overcomes a cramp in her side at the 23-mile mark to finish 40th out of 207 runners in the U.S. Olympic Marathon trial for women in Pittsburgh. She finishes in 2 hours, 43 minutes.
Sophomore Mark Kiroy, making his first varsity start, tosses a 4-hitter and belts a 2-run homer to lead Saranac past Ticonderoga 6-0. Left-fielder Jimmy Ryan throws out a runner at home to preserve the shutout.
Malone's state-ranked distance aces Jeff Mulverhill and Chad Lawrence lead the Huskies to a track win over Salmon River.
Former Saranac standout Kellie Briquer collects 7 hits in North Country Community College's doubleheader sweep of Jefferson CC in softball.
Eighth-grader Kristy Allen and freshman Krista Allen combine for 4 firsts while sprinter Kassy McIntyre gets 3 firsts in AuSable Valley's 72-60 win over PHS in track & field.
25 YEARS AGO (1983)
Basketball standout Paul Glodis and soccer star Mary Lou Philbrook are honored as Plattsburgh State Athletes of the Year.
Paul LaRock fans 15 and adds an RBI double in Beekmantown's 3-2 win over Saranac. Steve Criss chips in with a triple and a single.
