4 teams split tennis titles
PLATTSBURGH -- Plattsburgh High and Northeastern Clinton split the Section VII Class B Team championships at Plattsburgh State on Tuesday.
The Cougars won the boys' title with a 3-2 victory.
Plattsburgh's Will Harris, the Section VII singles champion, defeated Trevor Batchelder for the second time in three days, 6-2, 6-3. Batchelder fell to Harris in the Sunday's individual championships.
Anthony Changelo of Northeastern Clinton won the No. 2 match against Hayden Ferchette, 6-3, 6-2. Robert Lanzer won the No. 3 match for the Hornets over Cody Guay, 6-1, 6-2.
The Cougars dominated in doubles. Fresh off their doubles championship match Sunday, Eithne McCarthy and Ryan Guadreau defeated John Curle and Fredrick Ritter, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) to win the No. 1 match. Dylan Castine and Tyler Tetreault won the No. 2 doubles match against Alex Schin and Brian Marlow 6-1, 7-5.
GIRLS' CLASS B
Plattsburgh High won the girls' title, sweeping the singles on the way to a 4-1 victory.
Kim Jones of PHS knocked off Section VII champion Alexis Wrye in the No. 1 match 6-4, 6-3. Annette Liem beat Meaghan Langr in the No. 2 match, 6-4, 6-2, and Maja Vucelic defeated Amanda Forey, 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 matchup.
Emily Higgins and Elle Rathbun remained undefeated in doubles play as the Plattsburgh High duo topped Amanda Rabideau and Jen Bechard, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 match. Alana Cruz and Kristen Langr defeated Meghan Ryan and Amanda Prenoveau for the Cougars lone victory, 6-1, 6-2.
BOYS' CLASS C/D
In the boys class C/D championships, Lake Placid blanked Seton Catholic 5-0 at AuSable Valley.
Alex Hall, coming off a third-place finish in the sectionals, won the No. 1 singles over Reinhard Meisenheimer, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. Zander McClelland defeated Alex Fregeau 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Sean Dennin downed Park Jan Bin, 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 match.
Matt Moccia and Josh Foster won in three sets over Michael Gorbenko and Kyle Kirby in the No. 1 doubles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Jack Nardiello and Andrew VanDanBush, coming off their stunning run in the weekend tournament, defeated Evan Knox and Nick Sorrell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 doubles.
GIRLS' CLASS C/D
Mary McAuliffe rebounded in the girls' team championship matches to help Seton Catholic defeat Lake Placid 3-2 at AuSable Valley.
