BEEKMANTOWN — Rosi Cummings, who led Beekmantown to a conference championship, has been named the 2008-09 CVAC Volleyball Most Valuable Player.

Cummings was one of three Beekmantown players recognized by the conference, and Section VII Class B champion Plattsburgh High was also represented by three All-Stars.

Cummings, a middle blocker for the Eagles, had both the highest kill percentage and the highest dig percentage on the team. The senior co-captain made five different all-tournament teams this season and helped Beekmantown with her versatility.

"Rosi is not afraid of a challenge and is willing to play any position to benefit the team," Beekmantown coach Shana Fessette-Hileman said. "Rosi demonstrates all the characteristics a coach could ask for; she leads by example on and off the court, displays positive sportsmanship and always puts her team first."

Fessette-Hileman, in her fourth year at the helm, was named Coach of the Year, and Beekmantown was also honored with the Ray Holmes Award for sportsmanship.

The Eagles' Brittany Lapham was selected as a First-Team All-Star. The junior co-captain started every game this season as a setter and displayed maturity as she ran the offense. She also averaged six kills per match.

Kayla Hoopes and Roshell Gist led Plattsburgh High with First-Team honors. Hoopes is a senior middle hitter who led the Hornets in kill percentage and was an effective server. She was also strong defensively, leading the team in blocks. Gist, a senior, was a force at the net for the Hornets. As one of the hardest-attacking players in the conference, she was a threat from both the middle and the outside, and she also demonstrated excellent blocking ability.

Saranac's Kayla Nason, a four-year starter, moved from setter to outside hitter this season and led the team in kills, kill percentage and aces. Her athleticism, court sense and leadership were also valuable for the Chiefs.

Alyssa Rabideau represented Northeastern Clinton on the First Team. The setter led the Cougars in assists, points and aces. She also played relentless defense and ranked second on the team in digs.

Junior libero Alexandra Hoey led AuSable Valley in digs (417), points (213) and aces (91). Her back-row attack produced a team-high 119 kills, and she was also named defensive MVP at three tournaments this season.

Hannah Emery earned a spot on the Second Team after being one of Plattsburgh's best servers. The senior outside attacker was also versatile at the net.

Northern Adirondack senior Sarah Brunell led the Bobcats in aces and points and showed an ability to play any position on the floor.

Jamie Frenyea of Saranac was named to the Second Team as a libero. She anchored the Chiefs defense, leading them in digs, and was also a strong server.

Northeastern Clinton's Catherine Dietsche became a quality middle blocker, finishing with team-highs in blocks and digs. Offensively, she was an excellent attacker, server and passer.

Heleni Kuma, Saranac Lake's senior captain, led the Red Storm with 116 kills, 82 blocks and 85 points. Her quickness and ability to read opponents made her a strong defensive player as well, and she finished with a team-high 118 digs.

Beekmantown sophomore Kelsey Barnes, a libero, also made the Second Team.
