BEEKMANTOWN — Neither Section VII volleyball representative was able to advance past the regional tournament in Beekmantown Saturday.

Plattsburgh High fell to Cazenovia in three games in the Class B matchup, and Northern Adirondack failed to reach the final of the Class C three-team event. Cooperstown took the Class C crown.

The speed of Cazenovia's offense gave the Hornets fits throughout the match. PHS stayed with the Lakers on the scoreboard, but played just a couple points behind for most of the games.

"We just couldn't close the deal," PHS head coach Vickie McMillan said. "They have multiple hitters who are very good, but our girls stepped up and played with them."

PHS played games of 20-25, 18-25 and 23-25.

McMillan was very pleased with the effort of her seniors. "They gave it their all," she said.

Kayla Hoopes, who McMillan said had a "great all-around game," finished with 10 digs, six kills, six points, two blocks, an ace and an assist.

Ashley Rebideau had 19 digs at libero, and Brittany Bracale led the team with 20 kills. Roshell Gist added 12 kills with nine digs.

Julie Gregg led Cazenovia with 14 digs and Leah McAleer tallied 10 kills.

"The girls (Cazenovia) have been putting in such good effort all season long," Lakers head coach Brian Ellithorpe said. "And Plattsburgh played very well, they were much tougher than I anticipated."

Following the Class B regional, Cooperstown came back from a two-game deficit to defeat previously unbeaten Sydney. The Redskins finished with games of 17-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15.

Redskins head coach Rich Jantzi said his team's tough schedule paid off, and that it wasn't the first time they had to battle back.

"Senior leadership was key," he said. "They really committed to this weekend, and didn't want to go out on a loss."

Cooperstown, Sydney and Northern Adirondack played two three-game round-robin matches to determine which teams would play for the championship.

Cooperstown finished 5-1, Sydney finished 3-3 and NAC compiled a 1-5 record in preliminary play.

The Bobcats' victory came in its last game against Sydney, by a score of 15-19.

In the first of three games, NAC took control early with a seven-point lead. But the Warriors battled back and won the first two games, 25-19 and 25-17.

Sarah Brunell scored 12 points for the Bobcats, and Chelsea Warick led the team in kills with 14. Brunell added 12 digs and six aces.
