Eagles rule roost in volleyball



CHAMPLAIN — Beekmantown completed a perfect season Monday night in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls' volleyball, but not without a stern test from host Northeastern Clinton.

Beekmantown won 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.

Brittany Lapham had 12 points and 26 assists to lead the Eagles (16-0).

"Lapham definitely hurt us with her serving," NCCS head coach Brent Banker said.

Rosilyn Cummings had six points, 16 kills, 24 digs and two blocks and Stephanie Clookey added six points, three kills and seven digs for the Eagles.

"Cummings had a really great defensive game for them," Banker said.

Ayisha Loya had seven points, two kills, and one dig, Alyssa Rabideau had four points, two aces, two kills, 19 assists and eight digs and Tessa Rogers added one point, five kills, two block and one dig for Northeastern Clinton (10-6).

"We played them tough tonight," Banker said.

Saranac Lake 2

SARANAC LAKE — Northern Adirondack and Saranac Lake battled hard in a back-and-forth battle for five games.

In the end, the Bobcats prevailed 25-16, 14-23, 25-20, 14-25 and 25-22.

The Bobcats (5-10) were led by Amanda Filion with 11 points, five kills, seven digs, seven assists and one ace, and Sarah Brunell with 11 points, 10 kills, three digs and five aces on the night.

Erin Miner led the way for Saranac Lake (4-12) with 15 points, eight aces, eight kills, 12 assists and 10 digs, and Heleni Kuma with eight points, two aces, 15 kills, eight blocks and 26 digs.

PHS 3, Ausable 1
PLATTSBURGH — AuSable Valley took the opening game but Plattsburgh High rallied and swept the next three for a 3-1 victory. The Patriots (7-8) took the opening game 25-12 before the Hornets rallied to take the next three 25-20, 25-10 and 25-19.

Hannah Emery led the way for Plattsburgh High (14-2) with 14 points, six aces and nine digs, Kayla Hoopes added 11 points, three aces, 10 kills, one block and nine digs, Ashley Menard added two kills and 15 assists and Brittany Bracale had one point and 14 assists.

Amanda Hamilton led AuSable Valley (7-8) with 14 points, five aces, seven digs and 13 assists, Karissa fuller added nine points, two aces, four kills and four digs, and Alexandra Hoey added seven points, three aces, two kills and 24 digs.

Saranac 3, Placid 0
SARANAC — Melissa Doherty had 10 points, seven kills, three aces and 10 digs to lead the Chiefs past the Blue Bombers.

Saranac defeated Lake Placid in straight sets 25-18, 30-28 and 25-14.

Kim Plumadore added nine points, one kill, three assists, two aces and four digs, and Kayla Nason had eight points, 12 kills, four assists, three aces, six digs for the Chiefs (11-5).

"Doherty and Nason did a great job on the attack and serving," Saranac head coach Joanne Johnson said. "Caitlin Furnia did a good job defensively and passing."

Mackenzie Puerner had six points, two aces and four kills and Bethany Valenze had four points, two aces, five points and one block for the Blue Bombers (1-15).
