Chateaugay conqueror claims title



GLENS FALLS (AP) — Rashawn Herrington scored 15 points to lift South Kortright over Greenport 47-43 Saturday in the Class D final at the New York State Boys High School Basketball Championships.

Tanner Metzko added 11, and Eric Burns had 10 for the Rams (26-0).

Ryan Creighton scored a game-high 31 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Porters (22-4).

Avon 61, Maple Hill 55
John Housel had 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead Avon past Maple Hill in the Class C final.

Dan Banach and Garrett Kesel added 12 points apiece for the Braves (27-1).

Trent Tibbits scored 16 points to lead the Wildcats (26-2), who also got 10 points from Jamie Schultz.

Avon closed the second quarter on a 12-2 run, including a three-point play by Housel, and took a 31-22 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Braves went up by as much as 12 before Maple Hill cut the lead to 58-55 with 37 seconds remaining.

Meanwhile, the Braves hit 5 of 6 foul shots in the final 50 seconds to clinch the win.
