ITHACA -- Saranac Lake's Taras Gach, tied for seventh after the first day, settled for an 80 Monday to finish in a four-way tie for 17th with a two-day, 36-hole total of 153 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Golf Championships.

Gach was the top finisher among Section VII golfers in play at Cornell University.

Section V, led by medalist Dominic Bazzelli of McQuaid Jesuit and runner-up Yarik Merkulov of Penfield, won the sectional Championship for the first time in 31 years with a two-day total of 1052. The Genesee Valley area finished 14 shots ahead of second place Section XI (Suffolk). Section VII (Champlain Valley) came in 11th with a score of 1,169 -- 17 strokes behind Section X (St. Lawrence Valley)
