MALONE -- Northeastern Clinton's Stephen Young won medalist honors with a 4-over-par 76 Wednesday at the Annual Craig Chisum Memorial Golf Tournament held at the Malone Golf Club.

More than 20 area schools from Section VII and X competed in the premier junior golf tournament in the North Country. Students, coaches and athletic directors all compete in the event in different flights. There were 96 golfers in all who participated in perfect weather conditions.

Potsdam's Nick Miller and Gouverneur's Nick Sterling tied for second behind Young, each carding a 77.

Massena's Matt Supernault finished fourth overall with a 78, while Plattsburgh High School's Alex Pierce and Norwood-Norfolk's Matt Fiacco each turned in a round of 79 to tie for fifth.

Section VII students regained the title with a stroke average of 85.21 versus Section X's 87.90.

The coaches from Section X regained the "Coaches Cup" with an 85.4 average, as compared to Section VII's 86.6.

Madrid-Waddington's Aaron Jones led the Section X effort with a 76.

The tournament is held in memory of Craig Chisum, who was an avid golfer from Malone who was killed by a drunk driver while attending Methodist College in North Carolina in the late 1980s. His father, Mel, was the PGA Golf Professional at Bluff Point Country Club in Plattsburgh for many years.

A scholarship is given each year at Franklin Academy in Malone for a student who is pursuing a business degree in college and has a strong interest in golf.
