Big day for B'town in track



BEEKMANTOWN -- Beekmantown wasted no time in showing its heels to defending champion Plattsburgh High Tuesday in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference track & field opener.

The Eagles won 13 of the 15 events to defeat the Hornets 96-36 in the boys' meet. Josh Garren, Eric LaValley and Brian Drollette led Beekmantown with four wins apiece and Brendan Courneene had three firsts.

Ray Cintron won the 400 meters for the Hornets, and Ryan Turgeon, the high jump.

The Beekmantown girls also prevailed, 69-63. Hannah Constanty figured in the 400 relay win and added victories in the 100 and 200. Rosilyn Cummings won the 400 and 800 and anchored the 1,600 relay. Ikeyanna Hamlin swept the shot put and discus for the Eagles, setting a school record in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 5 inches. Melody Noonan held the previous record of 34 feet, 4 inches set in the early 1980s.

Emma Deshaies shined for the Hornets, helping in the 3,200 relay and winning the 1,500 and 3,000. Ashley Menard anchored the 3,200 relay and won the long jump and triple jump.

PLATTSBURGH -- Seton Catholic swept EKMW with Michael Champagne, Zachary Ziemer and Seth Bombard each picking up three wins for the boys. Barrett Waling was part of the winning 3,200 and 1,600 relay teams, Greg Perry won the discus and shot put and Jeongho Eom won the long jump and triple jump for the Knights.
