Scotts rally past Panthers
QUEENSBURY — Everything was looking good for the Crown Point girls’ softball team after one inning Wednesday.
The Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in their NYSPHSAA Class D quarterfinal against Section II’s Argyle at the Adirondack Sports Complex.
But a couple of innings later, the Panthers found themselves down, 11-5, and never recovered in a 12-6 setback to the Scotts.
Crown Point used a couple of hits and three Argyle errors to score five times in the opening frame.
Argyle (18-4) then tallied six times in the bottom of the second off starting and losing pitcher Jonalee Ross to take the lead for good. The Scotts tacked on five more in the third off reliever Jordan McGinness, taking advantage of three hits, two walks and a couple of Crown Point errors.
Cassandra Jones led Argyle offensively with two hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Her big hit was a two-run singled in the third inning. Jones also added a run-scoring hit in the second.
Sara Peck, who held the Panthers (17-5) to one run from the second inning on, went the distance to pick up the pitching victory.
Trisha Lacey accounted for 2⁄3 of the Crown Point hits by going 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Hope Lacey added a two-run single in the first.
