After weather postponed its NYSPHSAA tournament game in Queensbury Tuesday, the Crown Point baseball team will try again today. The Crown Point softball team will also be in Queensbury today, while Ticonderoga will play in Plattsburgh.
Today's winners will advance to Saturday's semifinals in Binghamton.
Baseball
Crown Point (19-0) takes on Fort Ann of Section II in the quarterfinals this afternoon at Morse Athletic Complex.
The Cardinals (15-7) cruised past Hermon-DeKalb, 1-0, in Monday's first round. Mike Alexander had three hits, including a two-RBI triple, and Jeremy Hoag also rapped three hits.
The Panthers, ranked No. 1 in Class D, received a first-round bye. They reached the state tournament by defeating Indian Lake/Long Lake, 5-3, in the Section VII championship game.
Softball
Class C
Ticonderoga will face Section II's Mechanicville in the softball quarterfinals at the Plattsburgh State Softball Complex.
The Red Raiders (19-8), who had a first-round bye, beat Greenwich, Lake George and Duanesburg to reach the state tournament. Mechanicville outscored those three teams by a combined score of 25-5.
Freshman Anna Arceneaux has been a force from the pitching circle. Against Duanesburg, she struck out 14, gave up two hits and allowed just one runner to reach second base.
The Sentinels (20-2) held off St. Lawrence Central, 1-0, Monday. Sophomore Katie Karkoski earned the pitching win and scored the lone run.
Class D
Crown Point will be seeking a return trip to the final four when it meets Argyle at the Adirondack Sports Complex.
The Scotts (17-4) beat Fort Ann and Hartford to claim the Section II title and had a bye in the opening round of the state tournament.
Junior catcher Lezzette Hughes drove in three runs, including the go-head, in the sectional title game, and senior third baseman Cassandra Jones had three hits. Sara Peck, a junior pitcher, struck out nine.
The Panthers (17-4) edged Edwards-Knox, 4-3, Monday. Jonalee Ross broke a 3-3 tie in that game by drawing a walk and scoring on an error.
Crown Point lost in the semifinals last year.
