Cougars gain ground in CVAC

SARANAC -- Monday was a bad day for Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Division I softball leader Saranac.
But, it was a good one for Northeastern Clinton.
Mara Faiviae rapped out three hits, including a double, to help lead Northeastern Clinton (7-3) to an 11-1 victory over the Chiefs, enabling the Cougars to close within one game of first place.
Ayisha Loya and Ashley Lamberton added two hits apiece for the Cougars.
NCCS scored four runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead and added five more in the sixth.
Chelsea Barcomb pitched well in the victory as she struck out six, walked two and allowed four hits.
Kelli Jock was the losing pitcher for the Chiefs (8-2). Jessica Myers, Kayleigh Rasco and Carissa Fournia each had a double for Saranac, with Myers driving in the Chiefs' lone run of the game.

Moriah 14,
AuSable Valley 12
PORT HENRY -- The Vikings held off the Patriots late for the victory.
Moriah took the lead early and had a 12-4 lead at the end of the fifth but AuSable Valley (3-7) rallied.
The Vikings scored eight in the third on some costly errors by the Patriots.
The Patriots scored four in the top of the sixth and four more in the top of the seventh to pull to within two. That is as close as AuSable would get.
Kaylee Sprague went the distance for the Vikings striking out five and walking one in the victory.
Ashley Allen was the only multi-hit player for Moriah (6-3) with two singles.
Kayla Taylor went 2-for-4 and Cassy Booth went 2-for-4 for the Patriots.
Brooke Pray took the loss for AuSable Valley.

PLATTSBURGH -- The Eagles scored 13 runs in the top of the seventh to pull away from the Hornets 19-5.
Beekmantown's (7-4) Samantha Warner had three hits including a double. Kayleigh McGovern had two hits and three RBI, Kelsie Bradish had two hits, and Beth Trombley had a double for the Eagles.
Dana Curle had two hits including a double and two RBI for Plattsburgh High (6-3), and Krissy Flynn added two singles.

SARANAC LAKE -- Morgan Flynn went the distance striking out four and wallking six as the Indians defeated the Red Storm 14-5.
Jessica Ewald had two hits for Peru and Rachel Collier had two singles, Megan Brenton and Lindsey Duquette each had a single.
Lauren Burgess had a triple, Maegan Meade had a double, and Emily Doyle, Olivia Glans, Jenna DeMarco and Hannah Arnold each had a single for Saranac Lake.
The Red Storm pitchers combined for four strikeouts and 16 walks.

ELLENBURG _ Emily Lashway had three hits, including a three-run homer and a two-run double in the Bobcats 11-run sixth inning on their way to a 17-7 win over Lake Placid.
Tia Hicks finished with three hits, including a double and triple, and Heather Byron had two hits for the Bobcats. Hilary Boyea added a home run. Freshman Brittney Charland scattered five hits to earn the victory.
Ashley Riley had a double and two RBI to pace Lake Placid.

PLATTSBURGH -- Eight Sentinels combined for 18 of the 22 hits as they defeated the Knights.
Samantha Cawley had four hits, Anna Besson and Julie Thompson had three hits each for Ticonderoga. Julianna Mandy, Katie Karkoski, Morgan Jordan and Arielle Vilardo each had two hits for the Sentinels.
"Everyone that got a hit tonight contributed for them," Seton Catholic head coach Sam Campbell said.
Thompson went the distance striking out six and allowing just one hit.
Samanatha Mulcahy got the lone hit for Seton Catholic.
