Saranac, Ti rule over baseball

PLATTSBURGH -- The Saranac and Ticonderoga baseball teams were winners on and off the field in 2008.

The two teams have combined to dominate the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference All-Star Team.

CVAC Division I and Section VII Class B champion Saranac had catcher Mark Eggleston chosen as the Most Valuable Player and Frank Trudeau as Coach of the Year. Saranac also had three players -- third baseman Richard Chase, middle infielder Nick Desroches and pitcher Jordan Keysor -- chosen to the All-CVAC Team.

CVAC Division II and Section VII Class C winner Ticonderoga, meanwhile, had pitcher Hunter Denno, outfielder Krys Ross, middle infielder Jake Taylor and first baseman Anthony Barnao all selected to the All-CVAC Team, while catcher Todd Carr and pitcher Matt Streeter were named to the Division II All-Star Team.

Northeastern Clinton was selected for the team Sportsmanship Award.

Mark Eggleston

Saranac

The senior catcher finished the season with a .520 batting average, 26 hits in 50 at-bats. He scored 20 runs, drove in 16 runs, hit three doubles, four triples, drew 18 walks, stole eight bases and hard an on-base percentage of .648.

Eggleston took the role of team leader this season and had a big season after missing a good share of his junior year due to an injury. He was outstanding defensively, but stood out even more on offense where he always seemed to be on base. Eggleston proved to be a clutch hitter throughout the season.
