GRANVILLE -- The Brockway Mechanical Senior Babe Ruth team opened its season by splitting two games on the road Saturday.
The Granville Senior American Legion rallied for an 8-4 win before Brockway posted a 7-4 decision over the Granville Junior American Legion.
Against the Granville Seniors, Brockway held the lead until the bottom of the sixth when the hosts scored five times to erase a 4-3 deficit.
Jordan Keysor pitched well in going 5.1 innings in taking the loss. All five of the runs in the sixth were unearned.
David Provost paced the Hitmen with three hits, while Cory Trombley and Matt Drollette added two each, with Trombley getting a double.
Then, against the Granville Juniors, Brockway jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the fifth inning and then held on.
Nick Gero pitched shutout ball until the sixth inning to pick up his first victory as a member of the Hitmen. Tyler Mesec then closed it out.
Provost rapped out three more hits for Brockway, while Trombley and Josh Chapman finished with two hits apiece.
The Hitmen, who return to Granville today for two more games, finished with 11 hits in all.
