Chazy pitcher gets no-hitter

CHAZY -- Chris Vliege got plenty of support Friday; not that the Chazy right-hander needed it.
Vliege hurled a no-hitter as Chazy defeated Elizabethtown-Lewis, 12-1, in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference baseball action. He struck out nine and walked four in seven innings of work. The only run he allowed was unearned in the second inning.
Vliege was helped to the victory by a strong hitting performance from Nolan Ryan, who went five-for-five, with four RBI.
Jacob Beeman went two-for-four, with a double, Jason Baker two-for-three and Kyle Reynolds added a double to lead the Chazy (7-3) bats.
"The defense played well today," Chazy coach Craig Duprey said. "We needed this one today."
Mike Gowdy absorbed the loss for Elizabethtown (4-6).

Schroon Lake 11, Keene 1
SCHROON LAKE -- It was Senior Day as the Wildcats defeated the Beavers.
Ethan Tyrrell went six strong innings, striking out nine, in picking up the win for Schroon Lake (8-5, 8-3). George Egan came in and struck out all three batters in the top of the seventh.
Brian Horton had a single a double, Egan a double and Tarri Haina a double for the Wildcats.
Keith Wadsworth had two singles for Keene (4-8, 3-7). Sam Earl absorbed the loss for the Beavers as he struck out four over four winnings.

CROWN POINT -- Mark Ashline had five RBI to help push the Northern Division champion Panthers past the Eagles.
Ashline along with his big RBI night had a double, Adam Clark had two hits and an RBI, Cody Waymand had a double and two RBI and Nathan Tabor had a single a two RBI for Crown Point.
Justin Potter pitched four strong innings for the Panthers (14-0, 11-0) allowing just one hit to Westport's Michael Tyler which drove in Christian Roth. Jacob Spring came on in the fifth and struck out eight.
Zach Sherman took the loss for the Eagles (4-9, 4-7) striking out five and hitting three batters.

INDIAN LAKE -- Jeff Reynolds drove in four runs and struck out seven from the mound as the Orange clinched the MVAC Southern Division with a win over the Jaguars.
Reynolds went three-for-three, including two doubles. Tom King had two hits and three RBI, and Andy Snide doubled, singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Jordan Wallace and Dave Andrews both added a double for Indian Lake/Long Lake (11-0, 7-0).
Josh Harvey suffered the loss for Johnsburg (6-2, 7-5).

WESTPORT -- Randi Swires had a career day at the plate and also earned the pitching win for the Warriors.
Swires went seven-for-seven, including two doubles, and she struck out two with five walks from the pitching circle. Ashley Sherman had two doubles and two singles, and Aimee Provost hit a triple and a single. Stephanie Marcotte added three hits. Codia Holland, Carmen Ellis, Alexandra Walsh and Claire Mero all rapped a double.
Westport's Stephanie Stevens had a double and a single, and Kalika Hopkins finished with two hits. Alicia Hathaway played excellent defense in the outfield for the Eagles.
Molly Rascoe took the loss.
