Chazy pitcher gets no-hitter
CHAZY -- Chris Vliege got plenty of support Friday; not that the Chazy right-hander needed it.
Vliege hurled a no-hitter as Chazy defeated Elizabethtown-Lewis, 12-1, in Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference baseball action. He struck out nine and walked four in seven innings of work. The only run he allowed was unearned in the second inning.
Vliege was helped to the victory by a strong hitting performance from Nolan Ryan, who went five-for-five, with four RBI.
Jacob Beeman went two-for-four, with a double, Jason Baker two-for-three and Kyle Reynolds added a double to lead the Chazy (7-3) bats.
"The defense played well today," Chazy coach Craig Duprey said. "We needed this one today."
Mike Gowdy absorbed the loss for Elizabethtown (4-6).
