Panthers best Wildcats twice
CROWN POINT -- It was pitching and more pitching for the Crown Point baseball team Saturday.
Justin Potter and Jacob Spring combined for two shutouts and 33 strikeouts as the Panthers took both ends of a Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference Northern Division showdown from Schroon Lake -- 3-0 and 12-0.
Potter struck out 17, walked two and allowed two hits in Game 1, while Spring fanned 16, walked one and surrendered three hits in the nightcap as the Panthers improved to 11-0 overall and 8-0 in the league.
Ethan Tyrrell was the losing pitcher in both games for Schroon Lake. He allowed five hits, walked six and struck out eight in the opener and went the first three innings in the second game.
Potter led Crown Point with two hits in Game 1, while Spring added a RBI double and Kevin Gadway a RBI single.
Anthony Wanderwalker rapped out both hits in the game for the Wildcats -- singles in the second and fourth innings.
In the second game, Spring accounted for three hits and three RBI, Adam Clark three hits, Gadway two hits and three RBI and Mac Kiely, two hits and two RBI.
George Egan had two hits and Vanderwalker the other for Schroon.
