LEWIS — Willsboro took advantage of its scoring chances Wednesday afternoon and knocked off second-seeded Elizabethtown-Lewis, 3-1, in the Section VII Class D boys' soccer semifinals.
Lucas Strong, Dakota Sayward and Alex Hamel all scored first-half goals as the third-seeded Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
"We needed to get big games from certain players in particular," Willsboro coach Andrew Lee said. "Elizabethtown-Lewis came out, put pressure on us right away and (keeper) Justin Drinkwine made some key stops to keep it 0-0.
"Dakota Sayward played well for us on defense and Clay Sherman coming back to help on defense. But it was a total team effort. Nick Ball did a good job defending on Tanner Cassavaugh. You can't stop Cassavaugh — all you can do is hope to slow him down a little."
The Warriors will face Chazy in Saturday's championship game.
Strong opened the scoring with a low, hard kick from 25 yards out at 11:11. Sayward tallied off a Sherman corner kick at 18:22, and then Hamel took a thru ball from Sherman and put a shot into the far corner at 25:13.
The Lions, who held an 18-5 shot advantage, finally got on the scoreboard with 4:34 left in the contest when Cassavaugh got a thru ball from Hunter Mowery and went in one-on-one with the keeper.
Drinkwine preserved the win in the Willsboro nets with eight saves, while Devin Drummond finished with two stops in net for the Lions.
"Willsboro played well, especially Sayward and Sherman," Elizabethtown-Lewis head coach Paul Buehler said. "And Drinkwine made some good saves for them, including one on a penalty shot late in the first half. He had good positioning throughout the game. I wish them well in the finals.
"It was a tough loss for us because I thought that we also played well. Andrew Kerr had a strong game for us at midfield, and Tanner Cassavaugh scored our lone goal."

CHAZY — Brandon Laurin tallied three goals and the top-seeded and defending champion Eagles joined Willsboro in the finals.
"Overall, we played well," said Chazy coach Rob McAuliffe. "We possessed the ball well and it was important for us to get off to a good start."
Kyle McCarthy gave Chazy the lead with 15:15 gone in the half and Laurin made it 2-0 at 25:40.
It became 3-0 when Kaleb Snide tallied with just one minute remaining in the opening stanza.
"The goal before the half gave us confidence," McAuliffe said.
Laurin added two second-half goals, one on a penalty kick, while McCarthy, Andrew Rabideau and Hunter Dominy also scored.
Chazy held an 18-6 advantage in shots, with Austin Santor making four saves for the shutout.
"One player who didn't score today was Tyler Bulriss, who was dangerous the whole game," McAuliffe said. "Every time he had the ball, he was putting Lake Placid in dangerous positions."
"We're playing well at the right time of the year. We had a lot of injuries early on, and we're finally healthy. Now the kids are playing with confidence. What makes this team special is different people are scoring — in years past, we always seemed to have one guy to turn to. We know going into games, we need a team effort."
Frankie Bazzicaulopo made six saves for the Blue Bombers.
"We knew going in that Andrew Baird and Evan Knox are two great players for them," said McAuliffe.
