FORT COVINGTON -- Plattsburgh High's Monique Arvisais-Anhalt turned in her best showing of the season Saturday, placing fourth in the Section X Cross-Country Invitational at Salmon River.

The Hornets' junior finished the 5-kilometer race in 21:01.90 minutes, turning the tables on fourth-place finisher Kendra Leonidas of Saranac Lake who outkicked Arvisais-Anhalt in their CVAC meeting on Wednesday. Nonetheless, Leonidas's fifth-place showing in 21:09.4 helped the Red Storm come in second in the girls' team standings with 72 points.

Canton, led by race-winner Aimee Beaudette, was an easy winner with 48 points. Beaudette ran away with the race, winning by 56 seconds with a time of 20:03.6.

Teammates Sophie Goobic and Maggie Lapinski also cracked the the top 10.

South Jefferson's Leah Williams and Carly Vantassel edged out Arvisais-Anhalt for second, beating the PHS runner by less than 2 seconds.

Saranac Lake's Emily Kriwox came in 10th in 21:57.4 with Plattsburgh's Sophie Deshaies, 11th, in 22:03. 6. the Plattsburgh High girls wound up sixth.

Malone, led by Kylie Lamica (12th, 22:07.3) and Jacqueline Whitman (15th, 22:59.8), placed fourth in the girls' competition with 87 points.

Section VII boys did not fare quite so well while Malone came in fourth with 143 points. Norwood-Norfolk was first with 43 points.

Canton's Matt Pierce won in 16:43.50, beating rival Jon Eng of Norwood-Borfolk by 9 seconds.

Malone's Joel Landry placed sixth in 18:35.6 while Tupper Lake's Charlie Beaudette came in 18th in 19:35.3

Lake Placid's Matt Saulpaugh, 19th in 19:35.9, and Plattsburgh High's Tejinder Gill, 20th in 19:39.80, were Section VII's top finishers.
