PHS, NCCS rule in tennis



PLATTSBURGH -- Plattsburgh High School and Northeastern Clinton dominated the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference All-Star teams for tennis, claiming all but one spot on the First Team.

PHS and NCCS each placed three boys on the First Team while the Hornets landed three girls on the First Team and the Cougars, two girls.

Seton Catholic's Mary McAuliffe, the top singles player, prevented a sweep of First Team honors by Plattsburgh and Northeastern Clinton.

Boys

First Team

Singles

Trevor Batchelder, NCCS -- A junior, he finished 5-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 2 singles. He was second in the Section VII Individual Tournament after capturing tournament titles in 2006 and '07. He earned his third straight trip to the State Championships.

Will Harris, PHS -- A junior, he finished the regular season undefeated at 7-0 at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 1. Harris also received the sportsmanship award for Section VII at the State Championships. The bad news for the Hornets is re-locating to Georgia and won't be back next year.

Robert Lanzer, PHS -- Senior captain enjoyed 6-0 season at No. 3 singles.

Doubles

John Curle and Frederick Ritter, PHS -- This senior (Curle)-junior combination went undefeated in the regular season at 9-0 to earn recognition as the No. 1 doubles team.

Nate Weis and Tyler Tetreault, NCCS -- Senior duo completed second season in doubles to finish 4-1.
