KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- Peru's Patrick Hogan, wrestling at 119 pounds, compiled a 6-3 record for the New York State team at this weekend's Cadet National Greco-Roman Dual Meet Championships, for ages 14-16.

To win a match in Greco-Roman, a wrestler has to win two of three periods.

Hogan won matches against wrestlers from Missouri, Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey, Indiana and Iowa, and lost to matmen from Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Minnesota.

Hogan's six victories all came from winning the first two periods. Two of his three losses, meanwhile, were by a 2-1 margin in the third period.

Hogan was part of the New York State team that took fifth overall -- it's highest finish in the past 10 years.

New York also went 6-3, with wins over Oklahoma, Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey, Indiana and then Iowa to seal its top-five finish. New York lost to Missouri, Pennsylvania and Minnesota.
