CVAC tennis produces 3 sweeps

PLATTSBURGH -- The unbeaten Plattsburgh High School girls won two singles and both doubles Wednesday to defeat Seton Catholic 4-1 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference tennis.
Mary McAuliffe gave the Knights their win at No. 1 singles with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kim Jones.
But Annette Liem and Maja Vucelic won their singles matches for the Hornets (5-0), who also received doubles wins from Emily Higgins and Elle Rathbun at No. 1 and Amanda Prenoveau and Meghan Ryan at No. 2.
The Plattsburgh High boys remained undefeated with a 5-0 sweep of Seton Catholic. The Hornets won every set.

LAKE PLACID -- Chris Barnes rallied from a first-set loss to win his No. 2 singles match Wednesday, helping Beekmantown knock off Lake Placid.
The Lake Placid girls shut out the visiting Eagles 5-0 to remain undefeated, pending the completion of their rain-suspended match with Plattsburgh High.
Barnes' comeback enabled the Beekmantown boys to sweep the singles. Adam Shearer and Tim Walsh won in straight sets.
Lake Placid dominated the doubles with Matt Moccia and Michael Gorbenko at No. 1 and Jack Nardiello and Marcus Moles at No. 2.
The Lake Placid girls lost only one set in overpowering Beekmantown. Juliana Moore, Arielle Retrosi and Maria Andersen won in singles with Kiersten Irwin and Haley Puckhaber sweeping at No. 1 doubles. Maggie Nicola and Veronica Gaspar needed three sets to win No. 2 doubles.

CHAMPLAIN -- Both the Northeastern Clinton boys and girls teams improved to 6-0 with victories over the visiting Unified Team.
Joey Englebrecht needed three sets to defeat Cortland Mowery at No. 2 singles as the Cougars swept the boys' match.
Chelsea McKiernan of the Unified Team downed Meaghan Langr, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to deny NCCS a sweep in girls. The Cougars' Amanda Forey won an 8-6 tiebreaker in the second set and went on to beat Carroll at No. 3 singles.

SARANAC -- The Saranac girls won every set, including a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, to turn back Peru. Jessy Todd and Courtney Morrow beat Jenna Ruff and Alice Robinson 7-3 in the tiebreaker to close out their doubles match.
Pavel Smrcka, Mark Kaschak and Alex Munn swept the singles in straight sets to lead the Peru boys to victory. Saranac's Steve Rock and Scott Maynard rallied from a first-set loss to win No. 1 doubles.

CLINTONVILLE -- Korey Devins, Dustin Farrell and Brendan Heipel won singles match for the AuSable Valley boys (3-2) against Northern Adirondack, while Max Recny and Matt Hamilton combined for one doubles win and James Ford and Baha Khafizor for the other victory.
On the girls' side, Courtney Difiore, Claudine Courson and Johanna Recny won at singles for the Patriots (2-3). Michelle Johnson and Krystyn Smith won at No. 1 doubles, and Phalon Nolan and Emily Stiffler at No. 2.
