CVBL, Mariners meet
PLATTSBURGH -- The Clinton County Mariners will take on the Champlain Valley Baseball League All-Stars tonight in an exhibition game at Lefty Wilson Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Mariners will have to contend with some stellar hitters in Kyle Kowalowski (.561, 8 doubles, 14 RBI), Billy Davis (.464, 2 homers, 23 RBI) and Matt Rivers (.404, 6 doubles).
Zeke Perras (.397, 11 RBI), Mike Bergman (.389, 5 doubles, 9 RBI), Joey Painter (.387), Craig Bujold (.383, 9 doubles, 2 homers, 15 RBI) also have been wielding hot bats this summer.
Tom Neale, Painter and Bergman head up the All-Stars' pitching staff. The veteran Neale is 5-1 with 48 strikeouts in 36 innings and a 2.33 earned-run average. Painter leads the CVBL with a 9-1 record and has struck out 54 in 56 innings while fashioning a 2.35 ERA. Bergman has the league's best ERA (2.03) to go with a 6-1 record and 49 strikeouts in 51 innings.
Also representing the CVBL tonight will be Nick Brindisi, Jared Hammond, Chris Markwica, D.J. Barber, Diavalo Fletcher, Aaron Judd, Andy Gooch, Andrew Bombard, Justin Mahan and Wayne Wilkins.
