Plattsburgh wins in LL play
PLATTSBURGH -- The Plattsburgh Little League All-Stars continued their march toward another District 37 title Saturday with a 9-1 thumping of South Jefferson at Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Park.
Plattsburgh, the defending district champion, advances to the semifinal round and will face an opponent to be determined Wednesday at Penfield Park.
Plattsburgh lost to Saratoga Springs in the first round of the state tournament last year.
The Plattsburgh 11-12-year-old stars continued to get excellent pitching Saturday with Jack Tolosky allowing only one hit while striking out 13 and walking three batters. Tolosky, who threw the maximum 85 pitches, pitched 5 and 2-3 innings, giving way to Jonas Miller who recorded a strikeout to end the game.
Tanner Rascoe drove in three runs and belted a two-run homer in Plattsburgh's five-run third innings. Alex Racine had a double and a triple and Garrett Frady two singles while Tolosky, Nick Dodd and Matt Corrow each had one single.
Rascoe's homer followed a lead-off base on balls to Tolosky. Eric Bechard then drew a free pass and Corrow followed with a base hit. Zack Bingel reached on an error, allowing Bechard to score, and then Mike Racine brought in a run on a fielder's choice. Dodd's RBI single capped the rally.
South Jefferson scored its lone run in the fifth inning when Hunter Cobb singled through the right side and came around on a pair of throwing errors.
