PLATTSBURGH -- Tom Neale picked up right where he left off last season on Sunday.
Neale tossed a five-inning no-hitter in the opener and rapped out seven hits on the day to lead the defending Champlain Valley Baseball League champion Plattsburgh Cardinals to a season-opening 13-1 and 12-1 doubleheader sweep of the Loreman's Royals at South Acres Field.
Neale struck out nine and walked one in pitching his no-hitter.
At the plate, Neale and Adam Porter led the Cardinals with two hits each, with Neale getting a double.
Neale then went five-for-five, including a double and three RBI, in the second game.
Winning pitcher Gary Duquette and Gus Terry, who took over in the fifth inning, combined for seven strikeouts and a one-hitter. Loreman's lone hit was a seventh-inning double by Nick Brindisi.
Tory Bouyea added three hits for the Cardinals, while Terry, Steve Burris and Nate Bilow added two each. One of Gus Terry's hits was a home run. Jason Terry chipped in with a base hit.

SARANAC -- Andrew Bombard, making his first CVBL start, tossed a seven-hitter in the second game as Hockey Plus gained a twinbill split with Meron's/Renzi's.
In the opener, Mike Bergman struck out nine, walked two and allowed nine hits in going the route for the win against his former teammates.
In the second contest, the Expos scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie it at 3-all.
But, in the bottom of the seventh, Joel Siskavich led off with an infield hit, Shane Perrotte bunted for a single and Kyle Rock delivered a game-winning RBI single.
Bombard fanned four and walked one. Rock led Hockey Plus with three hits, while Joel Siskavich and Eric Bell added two each.
Zeke Perras was the lone Expo with two hits. Jeremy Bissonette added a triple and Joe Curcio rapped a double.
Curcio rapped two hits, including a double, in the first game when Meron's/Renzi's took advantage of six walks and six Hockey Plus errors.
Rock. who finished with six hits on the day, led Hockey Plus with three hits, while Sean Despaw and Alex Cole added two apiece. Jeff Norton fanned nine in going the distance for the setback.

LYON MOUNTAIN -- The Lyon Mountain Miners scored four runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to erase a 2-1 deficit and break open a close Game 1 against the Adirondack Timberjaxx.
Justin Besaw went the distance for the pitching win as he struck out five, walked four and allowed just three hits in his first CVBL start.
Scott Baker, Jamie Juntunen and Kris Chase rapped out two hits apiece for Lyon Mountain, while Eric Meacham had a triple and two RBI and Jerry Kowalowski, a double.
Chris Thompson started and took the loss for the T'jaxx.
In the nightcap, Meacham went four-for-four, including three doubles and three RBI. Kyle Kowalowski added three hits, while Joey Painter contributed two hits, including a double.
Painter fanned five in working the first five innings for the pitching win.
Jeremy Nugent clubbed a three-run homer for Adirondack in the top of the first inning.

PLATTSBURGH -- Matt Rivers and Billy Davis had strong days as the C.R. Tunes Mudhens took two from the Fourth Ward A's at Lefty Wilson Field.
Rivers allowed one run in going the first five innings for the victory in Game 1. At the plate, Rivers rapped out three hits, including two doubles, in the opener and added three more hits, with a double, in the nightcap.
Davis, meanwhile, accounted for three hits, including a home run, in the first game and struck out six in going the distance for the pitching win in Game 2.
Donny Coolidge and Jason Kaplan added two hits each for the Mudhens in the second game, with Coolidge hitting a home run.
Brad Trombley and Nate Irwin rapped doubles for the A's in Game 1, while Justin Mahan and Kevin Jessey had two hits each in the second game. Kiel Peryea chipped in with a double.
