---- — GLENS FALLS — The Clinton Community College baseball team played two competitive games Thursday only to drop both to Adirondack Community College — 3-2 in eight innings and 5-2.
“They were very good games,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “We pitched well and defended well. We just weren’t able to put our hits together.”
In the opener, the Cougars forced extra innings with a run in the top of the seventh. But the Timberwolves prevailed on Justin Lemanski’s run-scoring single in the eighth.
Eric Rock took the hard-luck pitching loss as he went the distance, allowing just four hits.
Rock and Jamie Davison paced Clinton with two hits each, and Joe Tolosky added an RBI single.
“We had runners in scoring position in six of the eight innings,” Neale said. “We had a lot of opportunities but didn’t get the clutch hits.”
In the nightcap, losing pitcher Christian Camporeale and Davison, who took over in the fifth, combined on a five-hitter.
But the Cougars managed just single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Russell Merrill accounted for three of Clinton’s six hits and drove in a run. Chris Roenbeck contributed a double, which was the lone extra-base hit for either team in the twinbill.
The Cougars are off this weekend.
