---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College baseball team wasn’t able to cross home plate Sunday afternoon while dropping a 16-0 and 12-0 doubleheader to Hudson Valley Community College at Lefty Wilson Field.
Winning pitcher Andrew Kramer and reliever Cooper McGowan combined for a three-hit shutout in the opener, which went six innings.
Mike Sunkes had a big game at the plate for the Vikings with two home runs and a double. Alex Lushkevich also homered for Hudson Valley, which finished with 16 hits.
The Vikings held a 7-0 lead before scoring nine runs in the sixth to win by the run rule.
Jamie Davison doubled for the Cougars, while Matt Leta and losing pitcher Anthony Porcelli added singles.
Anthony Scaccia homered in the second game, while winning pitcher Sunkes and two relievers combined on a four-hitter.
Hudson Valley scored at least one run in every inning, with the run rule going into effect after five innings.
Leta, Chris Roenbeck, losing pitcher Eric Rock and Porcelli accounted for the four hits for the Cougars.
“They played really well and hit the ball well,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “They’re a very good team.”
The Cougars are back on the diamond on Tuesday, hosting Mohawk Valley Community College for two.
