Saint women fall in season opener

JOHNSTOWN — North Country Community College women’s basketball team opened its 2012-13 season with a difficult matchup against last season’s NJCAA Region III runner-up in Fulton-Montgomery Community College Sunday.

The Saints fought valiantly against the Raiders, trailing by just 13 at halftime, but Fulton-Montgomery outscored North Country 50-18 in the second half for an 89-44 victory.

Takima Lucky scored a game-high 17 points to lead the way for the Raiders. Kendra Jordan and Cassandra Flowers each chipped in with 16 points, while Grace Rutagengwa finished with 10.

The Saints were paced by a trio of players with nine points from Stephanie Demarais, Kelly Kezar and Emily Lapage.

North Country will look to get into the win column Thursday when it travels to Hudson Valley.
