---- — SARANAC LAKE — April Nossent’s marker at 32:57 of the opening half helped lift the North Country Community College women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Onondaga Community College Saturday.
Georgia Knox flicked a cross to Chelsea Lafountain, who hit Nossent on a one-time feed to put the Saints (3-7) up for keeps with little more than12 minutes remaining in the first stanza.
North Country head coach Kent Egglefield said this was the first time his team was at full-strength since the beginning of the pre-season.
“We’ve been depleted throughout the duration of the season having played three games with 10 players,” Egglefield said. “We showed our true potential and played in unison.”
Emily Lepage got the shutout between the pipes for the Saints, fending off 11 shots on goal.
“She made one of the best saves I’ve seen in my 10 years of coaching with six minutes left in the first half,” Egglefied said. “She got a fingertip on a redirected shot and stoned a rebound opportunity on the doorstep. It was a critical save in the game.”
Egglefield praised Knox and Nossent for controlling play in the midfield.
The Saints play host to Jefferson Community College Monday in a pivotal regional content.
