Cardinals' Huber wraps up stellar 2014 track campaign

DELAWARE, Ohio — The highly successful track and field season of Plattsburgh State sophomore Jess Huber came to a close on Friday night when the Plattsburgh product sped to a 10th-place finish in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Selby Stadium on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Competing against 21 other student-athletes who made the cut to run at the national meet, Huber was clocked in a time of 12.08 seconds to ensure herself a top-10 finish. It turned out to be Huber’s final performance of 2014 as she did not make the cut to compete in the 100-meter dash finals on Saturday afternoon. Only the top eight times recorded in the qualifying heats were selected to move on to the finals.

With her final race now in the books, Huber has put the wraps on a great sophomore campaign which saw her capture the State University of New York Athletic Conference title in the outdoor version of the 200-meter dash and finish as a runner-up in the 100-meter dash at the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This season, Huber set four new Plattsburgh State program records including new program marks in the indoor 60-meter dash (8.00 seconds), the indoor 200-meter dash (25.89 seconds), the outdoor 100-meter dash (12.03 seconds) and the outdoor 200-meter dash (24.43 seconds).

On Thursday night, Huber ran in the preliminary rounds of the 200-meter dash at the national championships and finished 16th with a time of 24.72 seconds. During her first season in a Plattsburgh State uniform, Huber earned All-SUNYAC First Team recognition after her championship finish in the outdoor 200-meter dash.
