PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College baseball team saw its losing streak continue Tuesday.
The Cougars (2-14) dropped 7-1 and 13-4 decisions to Schenectady Community College, marking their sixth and seventh consecutive losses.
Clinton has not won a ballgame since April 19.
In game one, the Cougars had the bases loaded in the first, third and fourth innings, but could not capitalize.
“We left a ton of runners on,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “There were a lot of singles and no extra-base hits. On a windy day, it was tough to get an extra-base hit. We had our scoring chances in every inning, but couldn’t come through with that two-out hit.
“In the first inning, Chris Roenbeck hit what appeared to be a mammoth home run, but the umpires overturned the call and ruled it foul. After that, we just couldn’t get the big hit. It was a competitive game even when they had their two and three-run innings.”
Dalton Castine paced the Cougars from the plate with three hits.
Austin Medeiros suffered the loss.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Clinton squandered away an early 4-2 lead.
“It was a really good game through five with a lot of emotion,” Neale said. “Both teams were into the game. Kristian Sherman wanted to go the distance, but kind of ran out of gas on the mound. We couldn’t get it done with our bullpen. It was an intense game, but we couldn’t finish.”
Castine, Marcus Lefebvre and Turner Ede each had two hits for the Cougars.
Sherman was tagged with the loss on the mound.
Clinton will conclude its season on the road against the Royals (17-14) at 2 p.m. Thursday.
