PSU women take fifth at SUNYAC meet; men finish in seventh


---- — BROCKPORT — The Plattsburgh State women’s indoor track and field team took fifth place at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday on the backs of the distance crew.

The Cardinals wracked up 50.5 points. Champion Cortland amassed 172 points.

Colleen Coon took second in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17 minutes, 58.75 seconds, while Kelley Driscoll took third in 17:59.92.

Amander Schermerhorn pitched in with a mile run of 5:03.04, putting her in second place. She also ran in the 800-meter run, finishing fourth in 2:19.67.

Coon, Jasmine Boncore, Christen Averill and Megan Schweizer all teamed up in the distance medley to post a fourth-place finish in 12:53.13.

Kristie Pageau set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a sprint of 9.66 seconds. She finished 10th.

Pageau joined with Rosi Cummings, Schermerhorn and Kelly Siry to take fourth in the 4x400-meter relay with a 12:53.13.

Pageau also took seventh in the high jump (1.53 meters), while Cummings took third in the 400-meter dash with a 59.85.

On the field, Amanda Gadway tossed a 14.42-meter throw in the weight throw, putting her in fourth.

Shearer leads men

Adam Shearer took second in the 3,000-meter run to lead the men’s team to a seventh-place finish.

The Cardinals finished with 17 points, while Oneonta finished with 153 points to take the conference crown.

Shearer finished the 3,000-meter run in 8:45.31, making him the only men’s team member to qualify at the SUNYAC Championships for the ECAC Championships next weekend in New York.

Mike Schram took fifth (15:23.35) in the 5,000-meter run, while Ryan Millar took 11th (15:46.55) and Chris Martin finished 13th (15:50.85).

Luke Potash finished 15th in the 400-meter dash in 52.12 seconds and teamed up with Brian Drollette to represent the Cardinals in the 200-meter dash. Drollette finished 15th in 23.48, while Potash took 17th in 23.89.

Potash, Ben Depo, John Hamilton and Alex Choi all ran in the 4x400-meter relay and finished seventh (3:36.02).

Dylan Hedderman, Christian Whalen, Trevor Kent and Martin made up the distance medley team, which finished eighth (11:11.26).

On the field, Depo took eighth in the long jump with a jump of 6.63 meters. Corey Duval finished eighth in the shot put with a 13.92-meter throw.
