Former Peru hoop standout honored

SARANAC LAKE — Former Peru standout Stephanie Demarais, a sophomore at North Country Community College, has been named to the All-Mountain Valley Conference, Third Team, in women’s basketball.

Demarais, who will graduate in May with a degree in Sports Management, averaged just under 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals a game. She began her career at NCCC as a role player, but quickly emerged as one of the Saints’ top all-around players.

Coach Jerrad Dumont was not surprised that Demarais was voted an all-conference player by the coaches.

“Stephanie’s dedication to not only the women’s basketball team but the whole North Country Community is second to none. She shows some of the best leadership qualities that I have ever seen and I know that Stephanie will be successful in no matter what she decides to take on in her future.”

“We will miss Stephanie but wish her all the best as she moves on.”
