Clinton women beat Broome

Clinton men get back to .500

JOHNSTOWN — The Clinton Community College women’s basketball team took only six players on its road trip this past weekend.

It was still good enough for two wins.

The Cougars (14-8, 12-8), following their one-sided victory over Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday, recorded a 63-49 decision over Broome Community College on Sunday in a game played at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

“We played five games in eight days and went 4-1,” Clinton coach Donna Dixon said. “I can’t complain about that.”

Katrina Garrand played another outstanding game for Clinton with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, to go along with five assists and four steals.

Alisha Ducatte added 19 points, while Ruth Paul chipped in with seven rebounds and Emily Decker, six. Garrand and Ducatte combined for seven 3-pointers.

Jennifer Celiberti accounted for two-thirds of the Hornets’ offense with a game-high 31 points.

Clinton jumped out to a 29-16 lead at the half and wasn’t threatened.

“That’s four wins in a row for us, and we seem to be peaking at the right time,” Dixon said. “We’ve shot the ball extremely well the last couple of games — our guards have been hitting their outside shots.

“We were shorthanded for the weekend with three players not able to make the trip, but the players we had available stepped up.”

The Cougars have two road games left in the regular season — Thursday at Fulton-Montgomery Community College and Saturday at SUNY Delhi.

“We want to keep winning our games and improve our seeding,” Dixon said. “And to stay healthy.”
