WATERTOWN — Mykell Krecko dominated inside with 18 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks Thursday night as the Clinton Community College men’s basketball team led much of the way in a 66-52 victory over Jefferson Community College.
Krecko hit 8-of-11 shots from the field as the Cougars improved to 12-12 overall and 9-11 in the region.
“We played very well, with a lot of intensity,” Clinton coach Kevin Daugherty said. “We outrebounded them from start to finish, and that was a key in the win. We did a great job on the glass.
“We also kept them out of the lane and held Derrick Williams, their leading scorer, to seven points.”
Chris Miller matched Krecko with 18 points. Matt Spencer added 10 rebounds, Jordan Coolidge had nine points and Jamie Davison contributed four assists and four steals.
Damien Jackson was the leading scorer for the Cannoneers with 13 points, and Justin Sullivan was next with nine.
The Cougars held a 37-24 lead at the half.
“There were a couple of lead changes early in the game, but then we took the lead for good,” Daugherty said. “We were up by 20 at one time in the second half.”
The Cougars, who need to win out in order to make the regional tournament, play at Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday and then at Columbia-Greene Community College on Sunday.

WATERTOWN — Alisha Ducatte and Katrina Garrand combined to score 41 points as Clinton Community College (12-8, 10-8) avenged an earlier loss to Jefferson Community College.
Ducatte played a strong game as she finished with 21 points, including 15 in the first half, when the Cougars took a 30-23 lead.
Garrand followed with 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and six steals. Emily Decker chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Ruth Paul had eight rebounds.
Jamine Canady tallied 17 points and Morgan Kiernan 12 for the Cannoneers.
“We played pretty well and got it done defensively,” Clinton coach Donna Dixon said. “We played an aggressive zone. We also shot pretty well against their man-to-man.
“The last time we played them, they shot 32 free throws, and that’s why we lost the game. (Thursday), we were able to protect the rim and not send them to the line.”
Jefferson did cut the Cougars’ lead to one point at the 8-minute mark.
“We then buckled down and went on a 7-0 run,” Dixon said. “We never looked back after that.”
The Cougars play their final home game of the season on Saturday against Hudson Valley Community College.
