SARANAC LAKE — Hudson Valley Community College went on a 12-2 run midway through the second half and defeated the Saints (13-5, 9-5).

The visitors held a 37-30 lead at the half.

“We came out of the half and took the lead with 14 minutes to go,” said North Country coach Chad LaDue. “Then they went on a 12-2 run to take a nine-point lead with 8½ minutes to go.

“We fought back, hung in there and were behind three to five points for most of the rest of the way. But (Jeffrey) Kruzinski hit two big threes for them and they went back up by nine. We tried to extend the game and play the foul game, and that is kind of how the final score ended the way it did.”

Jose Reyes, who made 10 free throws, led Hudson Valley with 18 points. Nate Krimsky added 13 points, Giacomo Giglio 12 and Richard Williams, 11.

Steve Carder tallied a game-high 24 points for the Saints. Jared Heden was the only other North Country player in double figures with 15.

“I thought we were a step slow today — there really wasn’t a lot of emotion,” said LaDue.

Hudson Valley avenged an earlier 68-66 home loss to the Saints.

North Country is back on the court Saturday with a 2 p.m. home game against SUNY Delhi.
