PLATTSBURGH — Clinton Community College came flying out of the gates against Herkimer Tuesday, but couldn’t keep its fast start going in a 55-40 women’s basketball loss.
The Cougars (5-5) jumped out to a 28-23 halftime lead on the Generals, thanks in large part to 18 first-half points by Alisha Ducatte.
“We came out strong, played really well and had a good tempo to the game,” Clinton coach Donna Dixon said. “We hit some shots and played good defense.
“Alisha really got us going; she had a great game.”
The second half, however, wasn’t as kind to the Cougars.
The Generals outscored Clinton 32-12 in the final stanza.
“In the second half we went completely cold and we didn’t do much defensively,” Dixon said. “Emily (Decker) is averaging 16 points a game for us and she got into foul trouble. She saw very limited minutes and that hurt us.”
Whitney Brown led the way for Herkimer with 15 points. Alyssa Craig chipped in with 13 points, while Shileeka Williams tallied 10 points.
Ducatte led all scorers with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Cougars. Katrina Garrand added eight points, five assists and four steals. Jessica Decker pulled down eight rebounds.
“We did some good things for our first game back from break,” Dixon said. “We will continue to work hard and put two halves together.”
Clinton will get another crack at the Generals as part of a home-and-home series. The Cougars travel to Herkimer Sunday for a 4:30 p.m. game.
