SCHENECTADY — A difficult start to the game proved to be the difference for the Cougars as the Royals held on for the victory.
Schenectady opened the game on powerful run and caught the young Clinton basketball team off guard.
“We got jumped on immediately,” Cougars coach Kevin Daugherty said. “They came out with a lot of energy and they have a lot of athletes.
“They were all over us early and we didn’t respond well … our youth was definitely showing. They hammered us for the first 8-10 minutes of the game and were down as many as 17.”
After the first portion of the first half, however, Clinton (1-3) began to respond. The insertion of Jordan Knight and Jordan Coolidge provided a spark on defense that helped the Cougars pull with six at the half.
